You pick a Wi-Fi network on the setup screen, the Google logo appears, and the phone switches itself off. It comes back, gets as far as account sign-in, and does it again. That loop is the most serious of the Pixel 11 Pro problems reported since launch. The others are milder: 5G with no internet, Wi-Fi that won’t settle on one band, and Genshin Impact refusing to start.

Google launched the Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold on 12 August 2026 with a new Tensor G6 chip and, for the first time, a MediaTek modem. Most owners haven’t hit any of this. The hardware itself is covered in our Pixel 11 specs and Tensor G6 guide.

Install the October update first

Two bugs are already gone. Google’s October 2026 update, build CD1A.261005.003 with the 5 October security patch, fixed photos and videos sometimes saving in the wrong orientation and the on-screen keyboard sometimes not appearing in search fields, according to TechRepublic. Get it from Settings › System › Software updates. The rollout is phased, so it may take a few days to show up.

Shutting down over and over during setup

The phone turns off every few seconds, usually at the Wi-Fi or Google account step, shows the Google logo, and shuts down again. Some owners say it felt unusually warm while this was happening.

Android Authority’s Dhruv Bhutani reported on 25 August 2026 that his five-day-old Pixel 11 Pro fell into this loop after a factory reset. He tried a clean setup, a forced restart, Safe Mode, ADB commands and sideloading the latest official OTA in recovery. Nothing worked. A second Android Authority writer later had a Pixel 11 Pro stuck in a boot loop after a reset, and there are similar posts on Reddit and Google’s support forums. Google hadn’t commented, though Android Authority said it appeared to be offering easy swaps to some affected customers.

A few things are worth one try each:

  1. Charge it fully with the original or a USB-C PD charger, and keep it plugged in during setup.
  2. Hold the power button for about 30 seconds to force a full restart.
  3. Set up offline. Skip Wi-Fi and the Google account, and add them once you reach the home screen.
  4. With the phone on, hold the power button, long-press Power off and accept Reboot to safe mode.

If it still shuts down, stop there. Repeated resets and sideloads haven’t fixed this for anyone. Ask Google Support or the shop for a replacement under warranty.

5G icon showing, but no internet

The Pixel 11 series moved from Samsung Exynos modems to a MediaTek M90. Android Authority reported on 1 September 2026 that some owners get a 5G icon with no data, weaker reception than on their old phone, or data that vanishes after the phone sits idle. One Pro XL owner lost both 5G and Wi-Fi after idle. Android Authority was careful to say it’s too early to blame the modem, since carriers, local networks and routers all play a part. In its own testing, a Pixel 11 Pro held 5G in a weak-signal spot where a Pixel 10 Pro fell back to 4G.

  1. Update from Settings › System › Software updates.
  2. Turn off Settings › Network & internet › Adaptive connectivity and reboot. It’s the workaround owners mention most, though nobody has confirmed why it helps.
  3. Toggle Airplane mode, then take out and reinsert the SIM. For an eSIM, re-download it through your carrier if needed.
  4. Reset in Settings › System › Reset options: mobile network first, then Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Saved Wi-Fi passwords and pairings go.
  5. Set Settings › Network & internet › SIMs › Preferred network type to 4G/LTE for a day to see whether 5G is the trigger.
  6. Ask your carrier to check provisioning, APN and VoLTE for the new handset.

Phone bought on a carrier plan? Make sure it’s unlocked before trying another SIM. Our Pixel carrier unlock guide shows how to tell.

Wi-Fi that drops or flips between 2.4GHz and 5GHz

Slow Wi-Fi, networks that won’t connect at all, and a phone that keeps hopping between bands have all been reported.

  1. Forget the network (Settings › Network & internet › Internet, gear icon, Forget) and join again.
  2. If your router reserves or filters addresses, set that network’s Privacy option to use the device MAC.
  3. Router using one name for both bands? Split them and join the 5GHz one.
  4. Update the router firmware. New chips sometimes trip over old router bugs.
  5. Reset Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings in Settings › System › Reset options.

Drops on every network you try, including ones away from home, mean it’s time to ask Google about a repair or exchange.

Genshin Impact won’t run

A lot of Pixel 11 owners can’t get Genshin Impact to start. According to Android Authority, the developer says the Tensor G6’s PowerVR GPU doesn’t meet the game’s requirements. Google has confirmed the issue and says the developer will fix it in an upcoming update, with no date given. Other games built the same way could be affected.

The fix has to come from the game’s side, so keep the game and Google Play system updates current and reinstall after each game update. A factory reset won’t help with a GPU compatibility problem. For other games that crash or stutter, clear the cache in Settings › Apps › [app] › Storage & cache.

Zoom at 100x and beyond invents detail

Not a bug. The Pixel 11 Pro’s top zoom levels use generative AI processing, which can “hallucinate” detail: a far-off sign or face can come out sharper than it really was, or subtly wrong. Reddit users spotted it close to the 120x maximum. Android Authority says nothing is broken, but thinks Google should say more clearly that generative technology is involved. For a picture you need to rely on, like a number plate or a document, stay at the telephoto’s optical zoom or a lower digital zoom.

Heat, RCS and warranty cover

A warm phone for a day or two during setup, the first backup restore and photo processing is normal. Some owners connected heat with the shutdown loop, so a Pixel 11 Pro that’s hot while idle should go back under warranty.

Messages failing after switching from another phone is usually RCS still registered to the old handset. Turn off RCS on the old phone (Messages › Settings › RCS chats). If you don’t have it any more, use Google’s online form to deregister your number. It often sorts itself out within a day.

Google’s limited warranty runs one year in the US and two years in the UK and EU. Back up before sending it in, and go through Google Support or the shop. For a second-hand phone, our warranty check guide shows how to confirm the original purchase date.

Before you buy a used Pixel 11 Pro

  • Run a Google Pixel Info check for model, warranty and origin.
  • Run a carrier and SIM-lock check plus a blacklist check.
  • Finish setup in front of the seller so a shutdown loop can’t hide, then test 5G and Wi-Fi with your own SIM.
  • Make sure the seller’s Google account is removed so the phone won’t hit FRP lock after a reset.
