A thin green line runs down the screen, fades, and comes back the next morning. That’s the OnePlus 13 problem owners worry about most, and it isn’t one you can fix in settings. The other thing on their minds is the switch from OxygenOS to ColorOS 17, which starts for the OnePlus 13 on 30 October 2026.

Below: the green line first, then the update, then the everyday battery, heat and Wi-Fi complaints, which you usually can fix yourself.

The green line is a hardware fault

It shows up as a thin vertical line, usually green but sometimes pink or white. At first it may come and go, then it stays. It often appears after an update, but not always. TheTechOutlook reported on a Reddit user whose new OnePlus 13s grew a green line with no software update at all. It faded, came back, and only cleared for a while after a restart.

Green lines come from the AMOLED panel or its connections. It’s a known problem on many Android brands, not just OnePlus. An update doesn’t cause the defect, at most it happens around the same time. No setting, reset or app will fix a real green line.

According to PhoneArena and FoneArena, OnePlus announced a lifetime display warranty against the green-line issue, with free screen replacement. It also said it was adding a moisture- and oxygen-blocking layer to the AMOLED panel, tightening quality control and setting up a dedicated quality team. Android Central points out that the lifetime promise is an India programme, with nothing comparable offered globally. Check the terms where you live.

Making a green-line claim

  1. Get evidence. Take photos and a short video while the line is visible.
  2. Rule out software once. Restart, then take a screenshot. If the line is in the screenshot, it’s software. If you can see it on the panel but not in the screenshot, it’s hardware.
  3. Don’t open the phone, and don’t take it to a third-party repair shop. Either can void the claim.
  4. Go to an authorised service centre with proof of purchase. In India, ask for the lifetime green-line display warranty by name.
  5. If they tell you to “monitor” it, keep your evidence and go back. The Reddit owner was reportedly told to watch the phone for several days after a two-hour log check.

OxygenOS becomes ColorOS 17 on 30 October

OnePlus has confirmed its phones are moving from OxygenOS to ColorOS 17, based on Android 17. According to TechRepublic, the rollout starts on 29 October 2026 for the OnePlus 15 and Pad 4. On 30 October 2026 it begins for the OnePlus 15R, OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13s. The OnePlus 13R, Open and 12 follow in November, and older models run through December and into early 2027. OnePlus says the dates mark the start of distribution, and that phones get it in batches by model, region and carrier.

Droid Life reports OnePlus gave little explanation for the switch. People who have used both say the two systems are almost identical.

OnePlus has also ended its smartphone business in North America and some other regions. It says it will still deliver the years of support it promised on existing devices.

Battery draining overnight

Drain is usually worst overnight or in the days after an update. Go through these in order:

  1. Restart and update in Settings › System & updates › Software update.
  2. Find the app. Settings › Battery shows usage by app. Something you rarely open sitting near the top is the likely cause.
  3. Rein in background activity. Turn on Settings › Battery › Advanced settings › Optimise battery use, then tap heavy apps in the battery list and restrict their background activity.
  4. Use Power saving mode when you need it, and lower the refresh rate under Settings › Display & brightness.
  5. Turn off radios you don’t use: NFC, plus Bluetooth scanning and Wi-Fi scanning in location settings.
  6. Reset all settings under Settings › System & updates › Reset phone. Your data stays. Only factory reset as a last resort, after a backup.

Then check Settings › Battery › Battery health. Low maximum capacity, or a phone that shuts down at 20–30%, means the battery needs service.

Heat and Wi-Fi drops

SymptomTry this
Hot for a few days after an updateWait. Optimisation makes heat, so judge it after a few days.
Hot while chargingDon’t game or record 4K video on a fast charger. Take thick cases off.
Hot during gamesLower graphics or frame rate instead of running everything at maximum.
Warm with nothing openClose camera, maps and games. Look in Settings › Battery for an app that never stops.
Wi-Fi keeps droppingToggle Wi-Fi, restart phone and router, then forget the network (tap it › Forget) and rejoin.
Router won’t accept the phoneIf the router filters devices, set the network’s privacy to use the device MAC address.
Drops on one bandTry 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz (or the other way), or turn off the router’s Wi-Fi 7 features for a while.

If Wi-Fi is still dropping, reset network settings in Settings › System & updates › Reset phone › Reset network settings. Wi-Fi that fails on every network after that needs the service centre to test the antenna. The same goes for a phone that gets hot while idle and keeps showing temperature warnings.

Signs it’s a warranty job

  • A green line or tint you can see on the panel but not in screenshots.
  • Restarts or overheating that carry on after a factory reset.
  • Battery health badly degraded while the phone is still under warranty.
  • Wi-Fi or mobile signal failing on every network.

Keep your invoice. Warranty terms depend on where the phone was sold, so run a manufacturer and model check on the IMEI to confirm the exact model and region before you contact support.

Used OnePlus 13s and grey imports

Now that OnePlus has left some markets, used OnePlus 13s are easy to find, and grey imports are common. Confirm the model and region, check the screen for lines and burn-in, and run a GSMA blacklist check on the IMEI. A carrier and SIM-lock check shows whether a carrier-sold unit is locked. Every step is in our guide to checking a used OnePlus or Motorola.

Getting the phone ready for ColorOS 17

  1. Back up with Settings › System & updates › Back up and restore, and use Google One for photos and contacts.
  2. Charge above 50% and keep at least 10–15GB free.
  3. Update your apps before the update and again after it.
  4. Allow two or three days afterwards. Battery and heat usually settle once optimisation finishes.
  5. Clear the cache of any app that misbehaves after the update, then restart.
