The One UI 9 rollout is well under way: as of 9 October 2026, Samsung’s Android 17-based update has reached the Galaxy S26 series, the Galaxy S25 family (including the S25 FE and S25 Edge), the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, and — in Korea so far — the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. The Galaxy S23 series is still in beta, and the Galaxy S22 series will not get One UI 9 at all. Samsung has not published a new schedule, so the dates below are based on confirmed rollouts reported by GSMArena and SammyGuru.
This tracker shows each device, region and status in one table, the download sizes, how to check your One UI version and force an update check, why carrier and unlocked phones get the update on different days, and how to check whether a used Galaxy you’re about to buy is eligible.
One UI 9 rollout status by device (as of 9 October 2026)

| Galaxy S22 series | All | — | Not eligible |
Samsung had previously listed 28 September as a date in its rollout plans but removed it and has not given a replacement schedule. That is why exact timing for your country, carrier and model can vary. Phones not listed above — including A-series models — had no confirmed stable One UI 9 date in the sources we track as of 9 October 2026. We will update this page as new rollouts are confirmed.
How big is the One UI 9 update?
The download size depends on your starting point. GSMArena reported these figures for the Korean rollout on 7 October:
| Device | Upgrading from One UI 9 beta | Upgrading from One UI 8.5 |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S24 series | about 500MB | about 3.8GB |
| Galaxy Z Fold6 / Z Flip6 | about 408MB | about 3.5GB |
If you’re on the stable One UI 8.5 build, plan for a multi-gigabyte download. Use Wi-Fi, make sure you have several gigabytes of free storage, and charge the phone before you start. Sizes for other models and regions will differ.
Which phones are eligible for One UI 9?
Based on confirmed rollouts and Samsung’s beta program, here is where each recent flagship stands:
- Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8: launched with One UI 9 in July 2026, when it debuted.
- Galaxy S26 series and S26 FE: the S26 series has the update; the S26 FE ships with it.
- Galaxy S25, S25 FE, S25 Edge, Z Fold7, Z Flip7: stable update rolling out in the US.
- Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, Z Flip6: stable update started in Korea on 7 October; other regions should follow, but no dates are confirmed.
- Galaxy S23 series: currently in the One UI 9 beta. A stable release has not been dated.
- Galaxy S22 series: will not get One UI 9.

Does the Galaxy S22 get One UI 9?
No. The Galaxy S22 series is not getting One UI 9. Your S22 will keep working, but it will stay on its current One UI version. If you rely on your phone for banking, work or payments, start planning an upgrade; see our used Galaxy model guide for which older flagships still have the most support left.
When will the Galaxy S23 get One UI 9?
As of 9 October 2026, the S23 series is still in the One UI 9 beta and Samsung has not announced a stable date. Because Samsung removed its earlier schedule, any specific date you see online is a guess unless it comes from Samsung or from an actual rollout report. Beta testers will usually receive a small update when stable arrives, as the S24 sizes above show.
How to check your One UI version
- Open Settings and scroll to About phone.
- Tap Software information.
- Look at One UI version, Android version and Build number. If it says One UI 9 and Android 17, you’re up to date on the major version.
The same About phone screen also shows your model number, which matters for the next sections.
How to force-check for the One UI 9 update
You can’t make Samsung’s servers send the update before your wave, but you can make sure your phone isn’t sitting on an update it hasn’t noticed:
- Go to Settings › Software update.
- Tap Download and install. The phone checks for an update immediately.
- If One UI 9 appears, connect to Wi-Fi, make sure the battery is charged, and install it.
- If it says your software is up to date, try again in a day or two — rollouts go out in waves.
Why do carrier and unlocked Galaxy phones get One UI 9 on different days?
In the US, Samsung builds separate firmware for carrier-branded phones and unlocked phones. Carrier versions also have to pass each network’s testing. That’s why the dates in the table differ:
- The Galaxy S26 series arrived on T-Mobile on 23 September, a week after the Korean release.
- US carrier Galaxy S25 models got One UI 9 on 3 October, and unlocked S25 models followed on 5 October.
Notice that this time some carrier models were actually ahead of unlocked ones. There is no fixed rule — the order changes from update to update and carrier to carrier. If your phone came from a carrier, the carrier’s timing applies even if you later moved it to a different network. Read carrier-locked vs unlocked phones for the other differences.
Galaxy S26 FE: seven years of updates
The Galaxy S26 FE went on sale on 4 September 2026 at $699 for 128GB, already running One UI 9. Samsung promises seven OS upgrades and seven years of security patches. It is also one of the few Samsung phones that did not get more expensive in October — the S26 and S26 Ultra each went up by $100 in the US. Our phone price increase 2026 explainer has the full list. Buying a used Galaxy? Check its One UI 9 eligibility first
Update eligibility is one of the most overlooked parts of buying a used Samsung. A Galaxy S22 can look almost identical to an S23 in a listing photo, but one will get One UI 9 and the other won’t. Regional versions matter too: carrier firmware, the US unlocked version and international models are updated on different schedules.
The reliable way to know what you’re buying is the model number, not the name in the listing. Samsung model numbers start with “SM-” and identify the exact model and, often, the variant. Here’s how to check before you pay:
- Get the IMEI. Dial
*#06#on the phone. Our IMEI guide lists other methods. - Confirm the model number and region. A Samsung info check shows the model number, region and details tied to the IMEI. Compare it with Settings › About phone and the listing. The free All-in-one basic info check is a good first step.
- Look up eligibility. Match the confirmed model to the table above. If it’s an S22, it won’t get One UI 9; if it’s an S23, it is still waiting on stable.
- Check the One UI version on the phone. Settings › About phone › Software information.
- Check the blacklist. A GSMA blacklist check reveals lost or stolen reports.
- Check the carrier lock. A carrier and SIM-lock check shows whether the phone is tied to a network, which also affects update timing.
- Watch the reset. The seller should remove their Samsung and Google accounts and factory-reset the phone in front of you.
For the full process, follow our used Samsung checklist.
What to do now
- S26 or S25 owner in the US: check Settings › Software update — One UI 9 should be available or arriving soon.
- S24, Z Fold6 or Z Flip6 owner outside Korea: your update has started in Korea; expect it to spread, but no dates are confirmed.
- S23 owner: wait for stable or join the beta if it’s available in your region.
- S22 owner: One UI 9 isn’t coming; start planning an upgrade.
- Buying used: verify the model number, blacklist and carrier status before you pay, and pick a model that still has updates ahead of it.
We’ll keep this One UI 9 rollout tracker updated as new regions and devices are confirmed.
