On 23 October 2026, six days ahead of its own roadmap, OnePlus started pushing stable Android 17 to the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India. The OnePlus ColorOS 17 update is now under way, and it isn’t called OxygenOS. For the first time, OnePlus phones are moving to ColorOS 17, the Android 17-based software from sister company OPPO.
So owners have two questions. When does my phone get it? And what am I actually getting? The dates come first, because that’s what most people are looking for.
ColorOS 17 dates for every OnePlus on the roadmap
The early start was reported by 9to5Google on 23 October. The roadmap itself, which TechRepublic published in full, had 29 October as the start date for those two devices. It lists 24 device entries, and some of them are already in beta testing.
Read these as the dates distribution starts, not deadlines. OnePlus and TechRepublic both say updates arrive in batches by model, region and carrier, so yours may land days or weeks later.
| Rollout start | Devices |
|---|---|
| 23 Oct 2026 (India, early) | OnePlus 15, OnePlus Pad 4 |
| 29 Oct 2026 (roadmap date) | OnePlus 15, OnePlus Pad 4 |
| 30 out 2026 | OnePlus 15R, OnePlus 13, OnePlus 13s |
| November 2026 | OnePlus Open, OnePlus 13R, OnePlus 12, Nord 6, Nord CE6, Pad 3 |
| December 2026 | OnePlus 12R (including Genshin Impact Edition), OnePlus 11, Nord 5, Nord CE5, Nord CE6 Lite, Pad 2, Pad Go 2 |
| January–March 2027 | Nord 4, N6, N6x, N6 Lite, Pad Lite |
A few models people ask about most:
- OnePlus 13 and 13s: 30 October 2026, in the same group as the OnePlus 15R. The OnePlus 13R follows in November.
- OnePlus 12: November 2026. The OnePlus 12R comes in December, along with the OnePlus 11.
- Nord phones: the Nord 6 and Nord CE6 go first, in November. The Nord 5, Nord CE5 and Nord CE6 Lite follow in December. The Nord 4 and the N6 family (N6, N6x, N6 Lite) are scheduled for January–March 2027.
So is OxygenOS finished?
As a name on OnePlus phones, yes. There’s no “OxygenOS 17” on the roadmap. TechRepublic describes the release as OnePlus’s “transition away from OxygenOS”, and eligible phones move to ColorOS 17 instead.
It’s less dramatic than it sounds. OxygenOS has shared a code base with ColorOS for several years, so many menus, settings and features will feel familiar. The biggest differences will be in the look, the default apps and the AI tools.
The details from TechRepublic’s report that matter most:
- You don’t have to switch. Migration is voluntary for eligible existing devices, and owners can choose between their current software and ColorOS.
- A rollback is promised, but OnePlus hasn’t said which versions it supports.
- New features include a refreshed interface, smoother animations and more AI, including Agent Mode (part of AI Mind Pilot). Once you authorise it, Agent Mode can organise files, retrieve information and carry out multistep tasks. TechRepublic notes that locally indexed files aren’t automatically uploaded to third-party AI services, and that AI features vary by device and region.
- Performance claims of up to 30% lower rendering load and up to 25% less rendering-related RAM use come from OPPO and haven’t been independently verified.
Underneath, the Android 17 base brings Google’s latest security protections. Our Android 17 security overview goes through what changed.
Should you install it straight away?
For most owners, getting Android 17 and current security patches is worth it. But the look and the defaults will change. If you rely on a particular OxygenOS feature or launcher layout, there’s no harm in waiting for early reviews of your model before you switch, since the move is optional.
If your phone is managed by work, be more careful. TechRepublic warns that controls for the new automated features aren’t yet clear for all devices and configurations, so check with your IT team first.
Preparing your phone for the update
- Back up photos, chats and app data to Google or a computer. Our OnePlus and Motorola guide has model-specific settings paths.
- Free up storage. Major updates need several gigabytes, so aim for at least 10GB free.
- Charge to 50% or more and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Look for the update in Settings › About device › Software update (Settings › System › System updates on some models).
- After it installs, restart once and leave the phone on Wi-Fi and charge overnight while apps re-optimise. Battery life and heat usually settle within a couple of days.
- Go back through battery optimisation, notifications and default apps. Major updates sometimes reset them.
Buying a used OnePlus while the switch happens
For months, used listings will mix phones on OxygenOS and ColorOS. A listing that says “latest ColorOS 17” or “upgraded” tells you nothing about whether the phone is genuine, region-correct or clean. Check it like any other used phone:
- Confirm the exact model and region with a manufacturer and model check. Chinese, Indian and global OnePlus models can differ in bands and software.
- Check the IMEI against the GSMA blacklist and run a carrier and SIM-lock check.
- Make sure the seller has removed their Google and OnePlus accounts.
- Open Settings › About device and confirm the software version matches what the seller claims.
Update not showing up yet?
Staggered rollouts mean many phones see the update days or weeks after their start date, and carrier-sold models (in the US, for example) often arrive later than unlocked ones. Check Settings › About device › Software update every few days. If your model’s window passed several weeks ago and there’s still nothing, look on OnePlus’s community forum for notes about your region before you contact support.
While you wait, a few things are worth doing:
- Check while the phone is on Wi-Fi and above 50% charge, the same conditions you’d want for the install itself.
- Install any smaller update that appears first. A pending security patch can sit in front of the big one.
- Ignore messages, pop-ups or websites offering an “early” ColorOS 17 download. The only safe source is Software update on the phone.
- Find your model’s row in the table above and note the month, so you know when it’s genuinely late rather than just not yet due.
