You plug the phone into the charger you already own, and the Motorola logo appears, the screen goes black, and the logo appears again. Over and over, until you pull the cable. That charger bootloop is the strangest of the Razr Ultra 2026 problems. The others are heat under heavy load, a cover-screen widget that chops off its own text, and security updates that turn up late.

At $1,499 this is the most expensive flip phone Motorola has sold, which makes each of those more irritating. None of them makes it a bad phone, and each has a workaround.

The charger bootloop

Android Headlines found in its review that some USB-C chargers make the Razr Ultra 2026 bootloop instead of charging. The reviewer hit it with a Google Pixel 67W charger. Anker and UGREEN chargers were fine. The bug carried over from the 2025 model, and since there’s no charger in the box, a lot of owners are using whatever they had lying around. It looks like a power-negotiation problem between the phone and certain USB Power Delivery chargers, not a battery fault.

  1. Unplug straight away and let the phone finish booting on battery.
  2. Change chargers. Motorola’s own TurboPower charger, or a reputable PD charger from the brands the reviewer found reliable, will do. The phone supports 68W wired charging over USB-C PD.
  3. Use a decent USB-C cable rated for 3A or 5A. Cheap cables can make the negotiation worse.
  4. Install updates from Settings › System › System updates in case Motorola has improved charger compatibility.
  5. If it keeps looping after you unplug, hold Power and Volume Down to reach the bootloader menu, use the volume keys to pick Recovery mode, and choose Reboot system now. Try Wipe cache partition if it’s listed.

Security patches arrive months behind

Reviewers complain about this more than anything else. Android Authority reported that the 2026 Razr phones launched in May on the March 2026 security patch, and the first update in mid-June only took them to the May patch. Motorola ships security patches roughly every two months instead of monthly. The previous Razr models only got Android 16 in February 2026, about eight months after Google released it.

The support policy for the Razr Ultra 2026 is three major Android updates and four years of security patches. That’s noticeably less than Samsung and Google offer on their flagships.

You can’t speed Motorola up, but you can make sure you aren’t further behind than you need to be. Rollouts are staged, so check by hand in Settings › System › System updates. Your current patch level is under Settings › About phone › Android version › Android security update. And keep Google Play system updates current in Settings › Security & privacy › System & updates; they carry some security fixes between Motorola releases.

Heat in games and stress tests

Inside is a Snapdragon 8 Elite with 16GB of RAM. That’s flagship power in a thin folding body with little room for cooling. Android Headlines reported that the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress test overheated the phone and made it crash, and other outlets saw similar failures in stress testing. Short benchmark runs were still strong.

Day to day, the heat shows up in long gaming sessions, 4K recording and fast charging. Lower the game’s graphics or frame rate and take breaks. Don’t game or record on the charger, because charging heat stacks on top of processor heat. Take the case off for heavy use, close background apps, and look in Settings › Battery › Battery usage for anything running constantly. Keep it out of the sun as well; the dark cover screen soaks up heat fast.

Date and weather cut off on the cover screen

According to Android Authority, a visual bug that clips the date and weather text on the cover screen has affected newer Razr models for more than a year. Neither Android 16 nor the June 2026 update fixed it. It’s cosmetic and the phone works normally, but the outer screen is a big part of why people buy a Razr.

  • Pick a different clock style under Settings › External display (called Cover screen on some builds).
  • Remove the weather widget or panel and add it back.
  • Set the system font to default in Settings › Display › Font size. Bigger fonts make the clipping worse.
  • Keep updating. If Motorola fixes it, the fix will come in a system update.

Battery life below what reviewers got

The battery is a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon cell, about 6% bigger than the 2025 model’s.

Getting much less? Set Settings › Display › Refresh rate to Auto instead of the highest fixed rate, cut back the cover screen’s always-on content and timeout, and restrict background activity for heavy apps in Settings › Apps. After a major update, give it a few days to settle.

Checking a used Razr Ultra 2026

Motorola discounts quickly, and there are plenty of used Razrs about. Before you pay:

  • Run a Motorola Info check for the model, region and warranty details.
  • Check the IMEI against the GSMA blacklist, and confirm it works on your carrier with a carrier and SIM-lock check.
  • Look at the inner screen and crease under a light, open and close the hinge several times, and test the cover screen.
  • Bring your own charger and plug it in while you’re there, to see whether it bootloops.
  • If you plan to modify it, make sure OEM unlocking isn’t greyed out. Our OEM unlocking greyed out article explains why it sometimes is.
  • Go through our used Motorola checklist.

Claiming for the inner screen or hinge

Android Headlines noted the crease is still there on the 2026 model, though less obvious than before. Every flip phone has one. These, though, are hardware faults that software won’t fix:

  • A bulge, bubble or line along the fold that gets bigger.
  • Dead pixels, flicker, or touch that stops working along the crease.
  • A hinge that feels gritty, won’t hold its angle, or clicks.
  • A cover screen that stays black after a restart.

Leave the factory protector on the inner display, and keep sand and grit out of the hinge. If you spot any of the signs above, photograph them, back up, and open a claim with Motorola support while you’re inside the warranty (normally one year from purchase, longer in some countries under consumer law). Motorola’s repair centres can test the display and hinge properly, and a claim made early is much easier than one made after the fault has spread.

A crack from a drop counts as accidental damage, which the standard warranty doesn’t cover. On a phone this expensive, an accidental-damage plan or carrier insurance is worth pricing up.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Razr Ultra 2026 bootloop when charging?

Some USB-C PD chargers make it restart repeatedly instead of charging. Android Headlines saw it with a Pixel 67W charger, while Anker and UGREEN chargers worked, so switch to a compatible charger.

Does the Razr Ultra 2026 overheat?

It can in long stress tests and heavy gaming, because a Snapdragon 8 Elite sits in a thin body. Lower graphics settings and don’t game while charging.

How many updates will the Razr Ultra 2026 get?

Motorola promises three major Android updates and four years of security patches, with patches arriving about every two months.

Why is the date and weather cut off on my Razr cover screen?

It’s a long-standing Motorola software bug that Android 16 didn’t fix. A different clock style or the default font size helps until Motorola fixes it.

Does the Razr Ultra 2026 come with a charger?

No. It supports 68W wired charging, so use a good USB-C PD charger known to work with Motorola phones.
