“Runs excessively hot.” That was Android Authority’s verdict on the Motorola Edge (2026) after a long photo walk and a round of stress tests left it uncomfortably warm. Heat is the first of the Motorola Edge 2026 problems most owners run into. The second is the stack of preinstalled apps waiting on the home screen. The third is that it feels slower than rivals at the same price.

On paper it’s a good deal for $600, which is $50 more than the Edge (2025). According to Android Authority’s review you get:

  • MediaTek’s 4nm Dimensity 7450 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (no microSD)
  • a 6.3-inch 2,640 × 1,216 Extreme AMOLED display rated up to 5,200 nits
  • a 5,000mAh battery with 60W wired and 15W wireless charging
  • a 50MP main, 50MP ultrawide/macro and 10MP 3x telephoto camera
  • IP68/IP69 water resistance

Cooling down a hot Edge (2026)

Owners notice the heat most while gaming, using the camera outdoors, navigating or fast charging. The Dimensity 7450 is a mid-range chip in a slim 7.22mm body with a plastic frame, so there isn’t much room to spread heat. Long camera sessions, 120Hz refresh, 5G in weak signal and 60W charging all pile on.

  1. Drop the refresh rate. Settings › Display › Refresh rate, and pick 60Hz or a lower standard setting instead of the highest.
  2. Turn down gaming boosts. In Moto’s Game Time panel (swipe in during a game, or open it from the Moto app), switch off performance boosts and limit the frame rate. A slightly lower frame rate runs a lot cooler.
  3. Don’t charge while gaming or recording video, and take the case off when fast charging.
  4. Use Wi-Fi where you can. 5G in poor coverage makes the modem work harder and hotter.
  5. Check battery usage. Settings › Battery › Battery usage shows apps that never stop running in the background. Restrict or uninstall them.
  6. Keep it out of direct sun while you shoot. A bright screen plus camera processing is the hottest combination there is.

Some warmth under load is normal for this phone. Heat while idle, a temperature warning, or charging that keeps stopping after all of the above is one for Motorola service.

Why it feels slower than a Pixel 10a

Android Authority found its performance trails the Pixel 10a, Galaxy S25 FE and OnePlus 15R. The chip is what it is, but you can stop it wasting effort:

  • Clear out bloatware and apps you don’t use (see the last section).
  • Keep at least 15% of the 128GB free. There’s no microSD slot to fall back on.
  • Cut animations in Developer options › Window/Transition/Animator scale › 0.5x.
  • Restrict background activity for heavy social apps in Settings › Battery.
  • Install system updates from Settings › System › System updates.
  • Restart every few days to clear memory leaks from long-running apps.

Battery life and slow charging

The 5,000mAh battery is slightly smaller than the 5,200mAh cell in the 2025 model. If a day feels short:

  1. Look in Settings › Battery › Battery usage for an app with heavy background use. Ad-supported apps like 1Weather are common culprits.
  2. Turn on Adaptive Battery, and Battery Saver on long days.
  3. Use a lower refresh rate and dark theme. The AMOLED screen uses less power on dark pixels.
  4. If you charge overnight, switch on Motorola’s overcharge protection or charging optimisation in battery settings to reduce long-term wear.
  5. Use a decent USB-C PD charger and cable. If charging is slow or keeps stopping, try another charger before blaming the port, and clean lint out of the port with a wooden toothpick while the phone is off.

Colour shifts and soft zoom shots

The review flags a few camera quirks. The ultrawide distorts foreground subjects. Colour shifts noticeably when you switch to the 3x telephoto. Quality falls off sharply past 6x, to the point that 30x “Super Zoom” shots are hard to read. Video tops out at 4K 30fps.

  • Stay at 1x, 3x or up to about 6x for usable detail, and crop afterwards instead of zooming further.
  • Keep ultrawide subjects away from the edges of the frame.
  • Use Pro mode to lock white balance if colours jump between lenses.
  • Update the Camera app through the Play Store and system updates. Motorola often tunes processing after launch.
  • Wipe the lenses. Smudges cause haze that looks like a processing problem.

The Moto AI key, and only two Android updates

You can’t remap the Moto AI key. According to Android Authority, it can only turn Moto AI on or off. It won’t open the camera, the flashlight or another app the way Apple’s Action Button can. If you don’t use Moto AI, switch the key’s function off in Moto AI settings so you stop pressing it by accident. Third-party remapping apps exist, but they need broad accessibility permissions, which is a privacy trade-off.

Updates are the bigger issue. Motorola promises two Android OS updates and three years of security patches for the Edge (2026). Android Authority notes that rivals at this price often offer up to seven years. The phone will be fine for everyday use for its first few years. It will just stop getting new Android versions sooner than a Pixel or Galaxy, and resale value tends to follow update support.

Buying one second-hand

In the US a lot of Edge models are sold through carriers, so check the lock status first. A Motorola Info check confirms the model and details from the IMEI. A carrier and SIM-lock check shows whether it’s locked, and a GSMA blacklist check makes sure it wasn’t reported lost or stolen. The rest is in our guide to checking a used OnePlus or Motorola.

Clearing out the preinstalled apps

Android Authority lists what comes preloaded: the ad-heavy 1Weather app, a gaming folder that’s really a Play Store shortcut, the Chime banking app, and several AI assistants (Perplexity and Copilot alongside Moto AI). The phone doesn’t need any of them.

Start in Settings:

  1. Long-press the app icon › Uninstall. Most partner apps go this way.
  2. No Uninstall option? Go to Settings › Apps › See all apps › [app] › Disable. The app stops running and leaves the app drawer.
  3. Long-press the gaming folder on the Home screen and choose Remove.
  4. Turn off promotional notifications in Settings › Notifications › App notifications.

For anything that can’t be uninstalled or disabled, ADB can remove it for your user account without root. Turn on Developer options (tap Build number seven times in Settings › About phone), enable USB debugging, connect to a computer and run:

ADB — Windows / macOS / Linux
adb devices
adb shell pm list packages | grep -i weather
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 package.name.here

Swap package.name.here for the exact package name the list command shows. Only remove apps you recognise, because taking out system components can break features. A factory reset brings everything back. Setup is explained step by step in our ADB commands guide.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Motorola Edge 2026 get so hot?

Reviewers found it runs hot under load: a mid-range Dimensity 7450 in a slim plastic body, worked hard by gaming, the camera and fast charging. Lower the refresh rate, turn off gaming boosts and don’t charge while gaming.

How do I remove bloatware from the Motorola Edge 2026?

Long-press each app and tap Uninstall, or disable it in Settings › Apps. Stubborn apps can be removed for your user with adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 followed by the package name.

Can I remap the Moto AI key?

No. It can only turn Moto AI on or off, and Motorola doesn’t let you assign another action to it.

How many updates will the Motorola Edge 2026 get?

Two Android OS updates and three years of security patches.

Is the Motorola Edge 2026 slow?

Everyday use is fine, but it benchmarks behind the Pixel 10a, Galaxy S25 FE and OnePlus 15R. Removing bloatware, freeing storage and cutting animations help.

What chip does the Motorola Edge 2026 use?

The MediaTek Dimensity 7450, a 4nm mid-range chip, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
