On 15 October 2026 the first Xiaomi 17 phones in China started receiving HyperOS 4. That was day one of a HyperOS 4 rollout that Xiaomi has scheduled in waves through January 2027, and if your phone is a Redmi Note or a POCO bought outside China, you’re further back in the queue than that date suggests. Global builds usually trail China by several weeks.

The wave table is directly below. After it: which models are in, the global timing, what changes, and how to install without trouble, especially on a phone you bought used.

The China schedule, wave by wave

Xiaomi published an official schedule for China in September. According to Gagadget’s summary, it runs from mid-October 2026 to January 2027:

WaveTimingPhones and tablets
1From 15 October 2026Xiaomi 17 Ultra, 17 Pro Max, 17 Pro, 17; Redmi K100 and K90 Pro-series models; Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro, Pad 8
2By 31 October 2026Xiaomi 17 Max, 17T Pro, 17T; Redmi Turbo 5 models
3November 2026Xiaomi 15 series, MIX Flip 2, Redmi Note 15 and Note 17 lines
4December 2026Xiaomi 13 and 14 series, MIX Fold 3 and MIX Fold 4, plus some TVs and wearables
5+January 2027Remaining TVs, watches and bands

Xiaomi calls these timelines approximate, and outlets have published slightly different lists for the November and December waves. Phones sharing a name can update weeks apart in different regions. A model missing from the table may still be added later, and the Xiaomi Community app shows the official status for your exact model.

Is my phone getting it?

Xiaomi 17 and 17T

The Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and 17 Ultra are in wave 1. The 17T and 17T Pro come in wave 2 in China, and both are in the global beta.

Xiaomi 15

Scheduled for November in China. According to Gizchina, the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra are also in the global beta programme.

Redmi Note 15

Listed for November in China. Redmi Note phones sold outside China often have different names or specs, so go by your model number, not the name on the box.

Xiaomi 13 and 14

Both are down for December 2026, with the MIX Fold 3 and MIX Fold 4. For the Xiaomi 13 family HyperOS 4 may be one of the last major updates. Support periods vary by model, so check the official one for yours.

POCO

POCO phones are mostly rebadged Redmi models (POCO F-series devices are often based on Redmi K or Turbo phones). Xiaomi doesn’t sell POCO in China, so POCO isn’t in the China schedule at all. These phones usually get HyperOS updates shortly after the Redmi they’re based on receives its global build.

When the global version arrives

As of late October 2026 Xiaomi hadn’t given a global stable date. Going by past releases, Gagadget expects global stable builds about four to six weeks after China. Global beta recruitment opened on 10 September and covers the Xiaomi 17, 17 Ultra, 15, 15 Ultra, 17T and 17T Pro. There’s no UK- or US-specific date.

That would put the first global stable builds for Xiaomi flagships somewhere from late November or December, with Redmi and POCO models running into 2027. Treat every date as an estimate until Xiaomi confirms it for your region. We’ll update this page as it does.

What HyperOS 4 brings

HyperOS 4 is built on Android 17. Xiaomi unveiled it on 13 August 2026 and opened beta testing the next day, according to Gizchina. The big visible change is a “Glass Effect” redesign, with translucent, glass-like panels and lighting effects throughout. There are also new AI features and system-level optimisations, plus everything Android 17 brings for security and privacy, which our Android 17 security overview goes through.

Early testers talk about smoother performance and better background app retention. Those are individual impressions, not independent benchmarks. Beta coverage also mentions:

  • More lock screen and always-on display options, with new clock styles and extra widget layouts on top of what HyperOS 3 had.
  • A tidier Notification and Control Center. Xiaomi testers report fewer duplicate notifications and quicker Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and hotspot toggles in quick settings.
  • New battery and thermal tuning tied to Android 17’s power APIs. Xiaomi says this should help mid-range Redmi and POCO phones most, since they have less thermal headroom than the Xiaomi 17 flagships.
  • App compatibility hiccups. For phones held back on HyperOS 2, HyperOS 4 is a jump across two Android versions, so some apps, banking and security apps above all, may need their own update before they behave normally.

None of that is confirmed in an official changelog yet. Xiaomi usually publishes full release notes only when a wave actually reaches a device.

Not on the list yet?

Xiaomi’s schedules tend to be partial and get filled in as each wave gets closer, so a missing model isn’t necessarily being dropped. While you wait:

  • Search your model name plus “HyperOS 4” in the Xiaomi Community app (or Mi Community). The regional status threads there are often more current than news coverage.
  • Look at your HyperOS and Android version in Settings › About phone. A phone still on HyperOS 1 or an early HyperOS 2 build is probably further away than one on HyperOS 3.
  • On a carrier-locked or operator-customised build, common with some European and Latin American carriers, expect extra weeks on top of the generic global ROM while the carrier certifies it.
  • Ignore “update packages” in forums or Telegram groups promising HyperOS 4 early on unsupported models. They’re a common cause of boot loops, and on a phone with a locked bootloader they can trip Xiaomi’s anti-rollback protection in ways that are hard to undo.

Buying or selling a Xiaomi phone around the update

A phone that gets HyperOS 4, and the Android 17 security patches that come with it, holds its value better than one at the end of support. When money is changing hands:

  • Check the region and ROM. A China-market phone running a modified ROM may never get official HyperOS 4.
  • Make sure the seller has removed their Xiaomi account. If it’s still linked, the phone locks after a reset. Our Xiaomi Mi Account check guide shows how to tell.
  • Run a Xiaomi IMEI check for the exact model, region and lock status before you pay.
  • Put the IMEI through the GSMA blacklist for lost or stolen reports.

Installing HyperOS 4 when it reaches you

  1. Back up with Xiaomi Cloud or Google One, and copy important photos to a computer.
  2. Charge to at least 50% and connect to Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings › About phone, tap the HyperOS version card, and choose Check for updates.
  4. Install when it’s offered and let the phone restart. The first boot takes longer than usual.
  5. For a day or two it may run warmer and use more battery while apps re-optimise. Leave it be.
