On 23 October 2026, OnePlus 15 owners in India got an update that replaces OxygenOS with OPPO’s ColorOS 17. That switch has joined the list of OnePlus 15 problems people search for, next to the older ones: heat during long camera sessions and games, and a frosted black back that marks if you look at it wrong.

There’s a third worry too. In July 2026 OnePlus stopped launching phones in North America and Europe, and owners there want to know what happens to their updates and warranty. Short answer: they continue. The longer answer, and the fixes for the hardware complaints, follow.

The move from OxygenOS to ColorOS 17

According to 9to5Google, OnePlus started the stable Android 17 rollout as ColorOS 17 on the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India on 23 October, ahead of the 29 October start it had announced. TechRepublic reported that the OnePlus 15R, 13 and 13s follow from 30 October, with other models in stages through March 2027.

The interface, menus and some setting names change, because ColorOS is OPPO’s software. In North America and Europe, the switch is optional. OnePlus said owners there can choose whether to move to ColorOS, and promised a way to roll back, though it hasn’t said which versions. Rollout is staged by model, region and carrier, so you may wait a while.

Before you install: back up, charge above 50%, and free up at least several gigabytes of storage.

Updates and warranty after the US and Europe exit

Android Authority reported that OnePlus said in July 2026 it would no longer launch new products in North America and European countries. For people who already own one, OnePlus said software update commitments, after-sales service and warranty obligations all continue as before. Remaining stock will still be sold.

So keep your proof of purchase, because warranty claims still go through OnePlus support in your region. If you bought an imported phone, an Indian or Chinese model picked up abroad for example, it may only be covered in the country where it was sold. A manufacturer and model check shows the exact model, region and manufacture details, and our article on checking phone warranty by IMEI or serial explains what you’ll need.

The camera shuts off when it gets hot

Recording outdoors, the phone heats up, shows a temperature warning, then stops recording or closes the camera.

The reports go back to launch. Notebookcheck wrote in November 2025 that leaker Debayan Roy said a OnePlus 15 review unit reached about 50°C while recording, then stopped and disabled the camera for around five minutes. The same report said the phone couldn’t finish 3DMark Wild Life and AnTuTu runs because of heat. YouTuber Max Tech reported overheating in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress test. These were individual tests, not a confirmed defect, and OnePlus didn’t comment.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 inside is a very powerful chip. Like most flagships, the OnePlus 15 throttles (slows itself down) under sustained load to protect the battery and components. That part is normal.

  1. Take the case off for long recordings, and keep out of direct sun where you can.
  2. Drop the video settings. 4K at 60fps or 8K makes far more heat than 4K at 30fps or 1080p.
  3. Close background apps, and don’t charge while recording or gaming.
  4. Update the firmware, because thermal tuning often changes in updates. It’s under Settings › About device › Software update, though the wording differs between OxygenOS and ColorOS.
  5. If you switched on a high-performance mode in Settings › Battery, turn it off for everyday use.

A back that works like a chalkboard

PhoneArena described the black OnePlus 15’s frosted, nano-ceramic-coated back as a chalkboard. A fingernail draws lines on it, and dust or keys leave marks. Most of them wipe off with a damp cloth or a finger, but the reviewer found some faint scratches had become permanent after a week of careless handling.

A slightly damp microfibre cloth or a wet wipe usually clears the marks. Keep keys and coins in a different pocket, and use a case if you want the back to stay perfect, particularly if you plan to resell. Permanent scratches are cosmetic, and the warranty won’t cover them.

Drain on a 7,300mAh battery

The OnePlus 15 launched globally on 13 November 2025 with a 7,300mAh battery, so complaints about battery life itself are rare. When drain shows up, it’s usually right after an update or because one app is misbehaving.

  • Allow two or three days after a big update.
  • In Settings › Battery, check app usage since the last full charge and restrict background activity for the worst app.
  • Turn off always-on display, or schedule it, if standby drain is high.
  • In weak-signal areas, see whether 5G keeps searching for signal, and drop to a lower network mode if it does.
  • If the drain began after the ColorOS switch, clear that app’s cache or reinstall it.

Restart, Safe Mode, reset: the general sequence

Lag, heat, drain or an app that keeps crashing: go through these in order before contacting support.

  1. Restart. Hold power and volume up, then tap Restart. Stuck processes that cause heat and drain get cleared.
  2. Update apps and the system. Monthly builds fix a lot of heat and battery bugs.
  3. Clear one app’s cache in Settings › Apps › App management › [app] › Storage usage if a single app is the problem.
  4. Try Safe Mode. Long-press Power off until the Safe Mode prompt appears. If the problem goes away, a downloaded app is responsible.
  5. Reset settings (not data) from the System settings menu if the network or display behaves oddly.
  6. Factory reset only after a full backup, and only if nothing else worked. Remove your Google account first if you might sell the phone.

A fault that survives a clean reset with no apps installed points to hardware. Contact OnePlus with notes of what you’ve tried; it speeds up a warranty claim.

What about unlocking the bootloader?

Some owners think about custom ROMs to avoid ColorOS. OnePlus officially supports bootloader unlocking, but it wipes the phone, can break banking and payment apps, and can complicate warranty claims. Read our bootloader unlocking explainer first. For most people, the official ColorOS update, or staying on OxygenOS where that’s offered, is the safer path.

Checking a used OnePlus 15

With no new OnePlus launches in the US and Europe, there will be plenty of used OnePlus 15s around. Before you pay:

  1. Get the IMEI with *#06# and run a Verificação de blacklist GSMA.
  2. Confirm it works on your network with a carrier and SIM-lock check, especially if it’s imported.
  3. See whether it runs OxygenOS or ColorOS, and whether the bootloader has been unlocked.
  4. Look over the back for permanent scratches, and shoot a short 4K clip to see if a heat warning appears.
  5. Go through our used OnePlus and Motorola checklist.

Perguntas frequentes

Does the OnePlus 15 overheat?

Some testers reported heat-related camera shutdowns and unfinished stress tests in November 2025. Everyday use is usually fine; for long recordings, lower the resolution, remove the case and update the firmware.

Why does my OnePlus 15 back scratch so easily?

The black model’s frosted, coated glass picks up marks like a chalkboard. Most wipe off with a damp cloth, but some can become permanent, so use a case.

When does the OnePlus 15 get ColorOS 17?

According to 9to5Google, the stable ColorOS 17 rollout for the OnePlus 15 began in India on 23 October 2026, with other regions following in stages.

Will my OnePlus 15 still get updates in the US and Europe?

Yes. OnePlus said existing owners keep software updates, after-sales service and warranty, and can choose whether to move to ColorOS.

Is the OnePlus 15 warranty still valid after OnePlus left the US and EU?

OnePlus said warranty obligations continue as before. Keep your receipt and contact OnePlus support in your region.
