From 100% to 75% in about two hours of light use, and a constant crackle in the earpiece on every call. That’s how one owner on the Turkish complaints site Şikayetvar described a phone bought in August 2025, with both faults present from the first day. Those two, crackling call audio and fast drain, are the Honor 400 Pro problems reported most often. The third complaint is about Honor’s support passing people around when they try to get it fixed.

The 400 Pro has sold well in Europe and the Middle East since its May 2025 launch, mostly on the strength of its cameras and fast charging. Here’s how to tell a settings problem from a faulty part, and how to make a claim stick when it’s the part.

Crackling in the earpiece during calls

Call audio breaks up for three quite different reasons. Which one you have decides the fix.

What you noticeLikely cause
Crackle only on some networks or in some placesVoLTE (4G calling) or Wi-Fi Calling handled badly by the carrier or the phone’s software
Muffled or rough sound, better after cleaningDust, pocket lint, or a screen protector covering the earpiece slot
Crackle on every call, every network, and in voice notes played through the earpieceA faulty earpiece speaker

Work through these in order:

  1. Try speakerphone and earbuds. If the sound is clean on speaker or Bluetooth, the network is fine and the earpiece is the suspect.
  2. Switch off VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling for a test in Settings › Mobile network › SIM management (or Mobile data), and make a few calls. If the crackle goes, talk to your carrier and check for a carrier or system update.
  3. Clean the earpiece mesh gently with a soft, dry toothbrush, and check your screen protector has a cut-out over it.
  4. Update the Phone app and the system in Settings › System & updates › Software update.
  5. Test in Safe Mode. Call recorders, VPNs and audio apps can interfere with calls. Power off, then hold Volume Down while it starts until Safe mode appears, and make a test call.
  6. Factory reset only after a full backup, and only if the crackle survives Safe Mode.

Reset network settings and swap the SIM first

Between Safe Mode and a factory reset there’s a middle step. A network reset clears saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings and mobile network preferences, and leaves your apps, photos and messages alone. On MagicOS it’s at Settings › System & updates › Reset › Reset network settings. Afterwards, reconnect to Wi-Fi, pair your earbuds again and make test calls on both mobile data and Wi-Fi.

Then borrow a SIM from someone on another carrier. If the crackle disappears on a different network, the problem is your carrier’s VoLTE setup in your area, not the phone, and the carrier can check your line and provisioning.

Battery dropping fast in light use

MagicOS is aggressive about letting apps launch themselves in the background, and that’s where most drain comes from.

  1. Open Settings › Battery and look at the usage breakdown since the last full charge.
  2. Turn on the Power-intensive prompt in Settings › Battery › More battery settings (the location shifts a little between MagicOS versions). MagicOS then warns you when an app uses an unusual amount of power.
  3. Go to Settings › Battery › App launch (or Settings › Apps › App launch). Set heavy apps to Manage manually, and turn off Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background for apps that don’t need them.
  4. Set Settings › Display & brightness › Screen refresh rate to Dynamic instead of always high.
  5. Leave Performance mode off for everyday use.
  6. After an update, give apps a few days to re-optimise before judging.

Warm phone, blurry photos

With a powerful chip and fast wired and wireless charging, the 400 Pro warms up during gaming, long camera sessions and charging, like most phones built that way. Don’t game or record video on the charger. Take thick cases off for heavy use, and close camera and game apps properly when you’ve finished. Keep it out of direct sun and hot cars, which matters a lot in a Gulf summer. Heat while the phone is idle usually means an app stuck in the background, so go back to the battery steps.

Most camera complaints (lag between shots, blurry photos, the app closing) are software or handling:

  • Wipe all the rear lenses with a microfibre cloth.
  • Update the system, since camera processing often improves in updates.
  • Clear the camera’s cache in Settings › Apps › Apps › Camera › Storage.
  • Reset the camera settings from the camera’s own menu.

A black screen in the camera, or a picture that shakes and buzzes, means the stabiliser or module is faulty. That’s a warranty repair.

Which MagicOS version should you be on?

The Honor 400 series launched on 22 May 2025 in the UK and Europe with MagicOS 9 on Android 15. According to Notebookcheck, Honor promised six years of Android updates for the series, with Android 16 (MagicOS 10) due by the end of 2025. Check Settings › System & updates › Software update; timing varies by country and carrier.

Getting Honor support to act on your claim

Another Şikayetvar complaint describes Honor’s customer service redirecting an owner again and again without resolving anything. You can make a claim much harder to bounce:

  1. Find your proof of purchase showing the date, seller and IMEI.
  2. Confirm the warranty dates and region first. Our article on checking warranty by IMEI or serial number shows how, and a manufacturer and model check confirms exactly which model you have.
  3. Record the fault: a short video of a crackling call on speaker, or screenshots of battery usage.
  4. Contact Honor through the official channels on its support page for your country, including the My HONOR app, and ask for a case or ticket number every single time.
  5. Go to an authorised service centre in person if there’s one near you. They can test and repair on the spot.
  6. Bought from a retailer in the UK or EU? A fault that showed up early can also go back to the seller under consumer law.

A faulty earpiece with no physical or liquid damage is normally covered.
