You lift the phone, the clock glows on the Always-on Display, and then nothing. The fingerprint doesn’t register, swiping does nothing, and you end up pressing the power button three or four times to get in. That frozen lock screen is the most-reported of the Pixel 10a problems this year. The others are a T-Mobile satellite feature that never actually connects, RCS chats stuck on “Setting up” after a phone switch, and a microphone or camera that doesn’t live up to expectations.
Most have a known fix. A couple don’t yet. Here’s which is which.
The lock screen freezes when you unlock from Always-on Display
According to Android Authority, this started with the March 2026 Pixel Drop and its security patch, and Google said it was aware of the problem.
Try these in order:
- Update Google Play system: Settings › Security & privacy › System & updates › Google Play system update. Android Authority reports this alone fixed the freeze for some people.
- Install the newest Pixel update in Settings › System › Software updates › System update. The monthly updates released since March are the proper fix.
- As a test, turn off “Tap to check phone” and “Lift to check phone” in Settings › Display & touch › Lock screen. Switch them back on once you’re updated.
- Re-enrol your fingerprint in Settings › Security & privacy › Device unlock › Fingerprint Unlock.
- Restart in Safe Mode (hold power, then long-press Power off) to rule out a third-party lock screen or launcher.
T-Satellite logo appears, but it never connects
You’re out of coverage, the satellite icon shows in the status bar, and the phone says the satellite network is unavailable. Android Authority says this isn’t widespread and has no official fix. It looks tied to the T-Mobile satellite services on the phone rather than to coverage.
First make sure your plan includes T-Satellite and that you’re outside with a clear view of the sky. Then:
- In Settings › Apps › See all apps, uninstall updates for the T-Mobile T-Sat app and related services. Restart, then update them again from the Play Store.
- Toggle Airplane Mode and look again at Settings › Network & internet › SIMs for satellite options.
- If it still fails, back up and factory reset (Settings › System › Reset options › Erase all data).
- After that, contact Google support. According to Android Authority, Google may offer a device exchange.
If your 10a came from T-Mobile, run a T-Mobile clean and finance check before an exchange or resale. It shows whether the phone is fully paid and in good standing. The T-Mobile unlock guide explains the carrier’s unlock rules.
RCS stuck on “Setting up” after switching phones
Google Messages says “Setting up…” or “Waiting for verification” for hours, or your chats quietly go out as SMS. Usually your number is still registered for RCS on your old phone, so it doesn’t move across cleanly.
- On the old phone, open Messages › profile picture › Messages settings › RCS chats and turn it off. Ideally do this before setting up the 10a.
- Don’t have the old phone anymore? Use Google’s online RCS deregistration form. Enter your number, get a code by SMS and disable RCS remotely.
- On the 10a, go to Messages settings › RCS chats and toggle it off and on.
- Clear storage for Messages and Carrier Services (Settings › Apps › pick the app › Storage & cache), then restart.
- Give it time. Android Authority notes RCS usually registers on the new phone within about a day.
Callers can’t hear you
Technobezz suggests a sequence for this, and it works best if you first find out which microphone is failing. Test with the Recorder app, a phone call, “Hey Google” and a video in Camera. If only one of those is silent, you’ve narrowed it down.
- Take off the case and screen protector. Clean the pinholes near the USB-C port, the earpiece and the rear camera with a dry wooden toothpick or compressed air.
- Turn Bluetooth off. Audio may be going to earbuds or the car.
- Check Settings › Security & privacy › Privacy controls › Permission manager › Microphone, and make sure the microphone access tile in Quick Settings isn’t switched off.
- Update the system and apps, then test in Safe Mode.
- Reset app preferences (Settings › System › Reset options). Factory reset only as a last resort.
Still dead after a reset with no apps installed? That’s hardware, and a warranty repair.
Photos look soft, noisy or blurry
The 10a carries over the previous generation’s 48MP main and 13MP ultrawide cameras. DxOMark scored it 134, a little below the Pixel 8a (136) and the iPhone 15 (145). It flagged noise in low light, white balance that’s sometimes inconsistent, autofocus that struggles with moving subjects, and weak zoom, since there’s no telephoto lens.
Some of that you can work around. Wipe the lens, because pocket smudges cause most “hazy” shots. Keep zoom at 2x or below; past that it’s a digital crop. Tap the subject to focus, and use Action Pan or a faster shutter mode for anything moving. Hold still until Night Sight finishes.
If every single photo is blurry, even close up, the lens or stabiliser may be faulty. Contact Google.
Checking a used Pixel 10a
Carrier-sold Pixel 10a phones may be locked. Before paying, run a Google Pixel Info check for the model, warranty and sold-by details, and confirm the lock status with a carrier and SIM-lock check (our guide on checking if a Pixel is carrier unlocked explains the results). Check the IMEI against the GSMA blacklist and make sure the seller has removed their Google account. Then test the fingerprint sensor, both microphones and unlocking from the Always-on Display in person.
When nothing specific works: Safe Mode, cache wipe, reset
Android Auto lagging or dropping out? Update the Android Auto app, swap to a short, good-quality USB-C cable, and forget and re-add the car. An app misbehaving? Clear its cache in Settings › Apps › See all apps › the app › Storage & cache.
For everything else, Android Authority recommends the same three general steps, and they fix more Pixel 10a problems than you’d expect:
- Safe Mode. Hold the power button, long-press Power off and accept the prompt, or power on and hold volume down when the Google logo appears. If the problem goes away, a third-party app is responsible. Uninstall recent ones one by one, then restart normally to exit.
- Wipe cache partition. Power off, hold power and volume down, choose Recovery mode, select “Wipe cache partition”, confirm and reboot. Your data stays.
- Factory reset. Settings › System › Reset options › Erase all data (factory reset). If the phone won’t boot, use “Factory data reset” in Recovery mode. Back up first, and have your Google account password ready for afterwards.
A problem that survives a factory reset with no apps restored is a hardware fault. Contact Google or the retailer; a dead mic or a camera that won’t focus falls under Google’s warranty, so check your coverage before paying for a repair anywhere else.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Pixel 10a lock screen freeze?
A bug that began with the March 2026 Pixel Drop affects unlocking from the Always-on Display. Updating Google Play system and installing the latest Pixel update fixed it for many owners.
Should I roll back my Pixel 10a to the February 2026 update?
It can stop the freeze, but the older build is less secure and the bug returns when you update again. Updating to the newest release is safer.
Why won’t T-Satellite connect on my Pixel 10a?
The satellite logo can show without connecting. Reinstall the T-Mobile T-Sat services, try a factory reset, then contact Google, which may offer an exchange.
How do I fix RCS on a new Pixel 10a?
Turn off RCS chats on your old phone, or use Google’s online deregistration form if you no longer have it. It usually activates on the new phone within about a day.
How good is the Pixel 10a camera?
DxOMark scored it 134, a little below the Pixel 8a and iPhone 15. Daylight shots are good; low light, moving subjects and zoom are its weak spots.
How do I fix the Pixel 10a microphone?
Check microphone permissions, turn off Bluetooth, remove the case, clean the mic holes and test with the Recorder app. If it fails after a factory reset, it needs repair.
