You switch back to the camera and it starts from scratch instead of picking up where you left it. Since the Android 17 QPR1 update, that’s the Pixel 10 problem owners mention most. The others are touchscreen, 5G and Wi-Fi glitches that started with Android 17, battery drain, warmth while gaming and occasional screen flicker.
The Pixel 10 has been discounted heavily this year, so plenty of people are reading about these issues before they buy one. Some of them Google has already fixed. One it hasn’t.
What’s fixed and what isn’t
| Problem | Cause | Where it stands |
|---|---|---|
| Lag, stutter, apps reloading | Android 17 QPR1 kernel driver regression | No stock fix confirmed yet |
| Touchscreen ignoring taps | Android 17 software bug | Workaround: toggle Smooth Display |
| 5G or Wi-Fi data not loading | Android 17 network bugs | Workaround: reset network settings |
| Screen flicker | Display software (AOD, low brightness) | One flicker issue fixed in a monthly update |
| Noisy VoIP call audio | Software bug | Fixed in the October 2026 update |
| Battery drain, warmth | Post-update optimisation, apps, signal, sustained load | Settings changes below |
According to TechRepublic, the October 2026 update (security patch 2026-10-05, build CP3A.261005.005 for the Pixel 8, 9 and 10) fixes audio noise or distortion in some VoIP calls on the Pixel 8 through Pixel 10, and a bug where the keyboard sometimes didn’t appear in search fields. It also patches security holes. It lists nothing for the QPR1 slowdown. Google promises the Pixel 10 seven years of OS and security updates, so support won’t run out any time soon.
The QPR1 slowdown: stalls under memory pressure
You’ll notice it as stutter when switching apps, brief freezes, and apps that restart instead of resuming. It’s worst with lots of apps open or with the camera running.
Android 17 QPR1 reached Pixels in mid-September 2026. Android Authority and the GrapheneOS project both say it included a regression in the Pixel kernel driver tree that causes stuttering, lag and freezes when memory is under pressure, with processes killed because of the stalls. GrapheneOS shipped its own kernel fix. As of late October, Google hadn’t said when stock Pixel firmware would get one.
Until it does:
- Install every update in Settings › System › Software updates, plus Google Play system updates under Settings › Security & privacy › System & updates.
- Ease the memory load. Close heavy apps you aren’t using, drop live wallpapers and cut down on widgets.
- Restart every few days. It clears the stalls for a while.
- Look for one misbehaving app in Settings › Apps. Force stop it and update it.
Don’t factory reset for this one. The fault is in the firmware, so a reset won’t touch it.
Taps ignored, 5G gone, Wi-Fi apps not loading
ChannelNews reported in June 2026 that the Android 17 rollout brought complaints from Pixel 10, 9, 8 and some Pixel 7 owners. Screens stopped responding to taps and swipes now and then, some people got reversed scrolling, 5G vanished on several models, and Google apps failed to load data while connected to Wi-Fi.
For the touchscreen:
- Go to Settings › Display & touch › Smooth Display, switch it off and back on. Owners said this brings temporary relief, which suggests software.
- Take off a thick or badly fitted screen protector and test again.
- If you do use a protector, turn on Screen protector mode (increased touch sensitivity).
For 5G and Wi-Fi:
- Turn Airplane mode on for 15 seconds, then off.
- Reset in Settings › System › Reset options: first Reset mobile network settings, then Reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi. You’ll need to rejoin networks and re-pair devices.
- If an eSIM disappeared after a restart, ask your carrier to reissue it.
- A used Pixel that won’t work on your network may be carrier-locked. Our Pixel carrier unlock check guide explains how to tell.
Flicker at low brightness and on the Always On Display
Owners have reported flicker at low brightness and on the Always On Display. Polish site PurePC covered an unusual screen problem on the Pixel 10 series that may be linked to Android software, and PhoneArena reported that Google fixed a Pixel 10 flicker issue in a monthly update. So update first.
- Install the latest monthly release.
- Switch Adaptive brightness off and on, and test with Smooth Display off.
- Boot into Safe Mode. Press Power and Volume up together for the power menu, touch and hold Power off, then tap OK. Restart to leave it. If the flicker stops in Safe Mode, an app or overlay is causing it.
- Flicker, lines or a green tint that remain in Safe Mode are probably hardware. Book a warranty repair.
How hot does the Tensor G5 get?
Not very. The Tensor G5 is Google’s first chip made by TSMC, on a 3nm process. In 9to5Google’s round-up of early reviews, testers found it ran noticeably cooler than the Tensor G4 in daily use and levelled off quickly under gaming load. Benchmark scores still trailed Snapdragon rivals, and demanding games couldn’t hold a steady 60fps at maximum settings. Warm is expected. Hot means something specific is pushing it.
- Avoid long gaming or camera sessions while charging, especially on a fast charger or a wireless pad.
- Lower graphics settings or cap the frame rate in heavy games.
- Take the case off when it’s hot, and keep it out of direct sun.
- In poor coverage the modem works harder. Turn on Wi-Fi calling where you can.
- A temperature warning while idle: boot into Safe Mode to rule out an app, then contact Google.
Battery dropping by late afternoon
Every big update sets off a few days of app re-optimisation. Weak signal, a background app stuck in a loop and the QPR1 memory stalls can all add to it.
- Give it three to five days after an update before you judge battery life.
- In Settings › Battery › Battery usage, set any app with heavy background use to App battery usage › Restricted.
- Check Settings › Battery › Adaptive Battery is on.
- In Settings › Battery › Charging optimization, pick Adaptive charging or Limit to 80% to protect long-term health.
- Look at Settings › Battery › Battery health. Clearly degraded capacity on a phone still under warranty is worth a call to Google support.
Buying a discounted or used Pixel 10
- Run a Google Pixel Info check to confirm model, storage, warranty and carrier.
- Dial
*#06#and run a GSMA blacklist check on the IMEI, so you know it hasn’t been reported lost or stolen. - Make sure it’s signed out of the seller’s Google account. On a phone sold as “unlocked”, check OEM unlocking isn’t greyed out.
Before you send it to Google
Software bugs hit lots of phones at once and change with updates. Hardware faults stay with one phone and survive a factory reset. Contact Google or the retailer if you see:
- Lines, green tint, dead pixels or flicker that stay in Safe Mode.
- Touch failing in the same patch of screen every time.
- A swollen battery, a lifting back panel, or shutdowns above 20%.
- No signal on any SIM or carrier while other phones work in the same spot.
- Charging that only works with the cable at certain angles. That’s often lint in the port, so clean it gently with a wooden toothpick first.
The Pixel 10 launched in August 2025. In the US, launch units are past the standard one-year limited warranty unless you bought Preferred Care. Buyers in the UK and EU usually have two years of cover. Back up the phone and follow Google’s instructions on what to remove before you send it in.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Pixel 10 lagging after Android 17 QPR1?
A kernel driver regression in QPR1 causes stutter and app reloads under memory pressure. Restart regularly and keep background load down until Google ships a fix.
Does the Pixel 10 overheat?
Early reviews found the Tensor G5 runs cooler than the G4. It gets warm in long gaming or charging sessions but rarely hot in normal use.
How do I fix Pixel 10 battery drain?
Wait a few days after updating, restrict apps with heavy background use in Settings › Battery › Battery usage, and keep Adaptive Battery on.
What did the October 2026 Pixel update fix?
VoIP call audio noise on the Pixel 8 to Pixel 10, a keyboard bug in search fields, and security vulnerabilities. Nothing for the QPR1 lag.
How do I boot a Pixel 10 into Safe Mode?
Press Power and Volume up for the power menu, touch and hold Power off, then tap OK. Restart to leave Safe Mode.
Why is my Pixel 10 touchscreen not responding?
Android 17 caused intermittent touch problems on some Pixels. Toggle Smooth Display off and on, update, and test without the screen protector.
