The call cuts out mid-sentence, a WhatsApp message sits on one grey tick, and the status bar flips from Wi-Fi to 5G and back while you watch. Connection trouble like that is one of the Pixel 10 Pro problems that hasn’t gone away more than a year after launch, along with a phone that runs warm at idle and battery life that changes from day to day. Android 17 QPR1, which began rolling out on 17 September 2026, added lag and apps reloading in the background.
Keep the scale in mind. WebProNews, summing up ten months of ownership reports, noted that some owners have had rock-solid phones, and problems vary by carrier and region. If yours is one of the troubled ones, here is what has been reported for the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL and what to try.
Dropped calls and Wi-Fi that won’t stay put
Android Authority’s Joe Maring described all three symptoms: calls dropping without warning, WhatsApp messages failing, and the phone swapping between Wi-Fi and mobile data with both signals looking strong. He said turning off Adaptive Connectivity didn’t give lasting relief. Google hasn’t announced a specific fix.
- Install the latest update from Settings › System › Software updates › System update.
- Turn on Airplane mode for 30 seconds so the phone registers on the network again.
- Try a day with Settings › Network & internet › Adaptive connectivity off. It doesn’t help everyone, but it costs nothing to test.
- Switch Wi-Fi calling on or off under Settings › Network & internet › SIMs › your SIM › Wi-Fi calling, depending on which network is weaker at home.
- In the same SIM settings, set the preferred network type to LTE for a while. If the drops stop, 5G handovers are the trigger.
- Reset with Settings › System › Reset options › Reset Mobile Network Settings.
- Ask your carrier for a new SIM or eSIM profile. Old SIMs can cause registration trouble.
Still dropping calls after all that, in places where other phones on the same carrier are fine? Contact Google support. The modem or antenna may need looking at.
Warm at idle, hot when charging
WebProNews reports owners feeling heat during video playback, ordinary use and even at idle. Android Police documented waves of idle-heating reports after the March and April 2026 updates. The usual pattern is a background process keeping the Tensor G5 busy.
A restart clears stuck services, which is the most common cause, so start there. Then open Settings › Battery › Battery usage and look for an app with lots of background time. Update Google Play services and your apps from the Play Store. Take the case off when charging or gaming, and don’t charge in a car in direct sun. If it’s still warm, boot into Safe Mode (steps further down) to rule out third-party apps.
Battery life and 30W charging
The Pixel 10 Pro has a 4,870mAh battery. Tom’s Guide’s battery test measured about 13 hours 43 minutes, well short of the 20-plus hours some rivals manage. Owners talk about good days and bad days, with drain sometimes worse after an update.
- Give it two or three days after an update while it re-optimises apps.
- Turn on Adaptive Battery in Settings › Battery › Adaptive preferences.
- Use Battery Saver on heavy days. Extreme Battery Saver limits the phone to essential apps.
- Lower brightness or turn off Smooth Display in Settings › Display.
- Check the capacity estimate in Settings › Battery › Battery health. A battery that has lost capacity drains faster and runs warmer.
Charging is roughly 30W wired, a lot slower than the 65W-plus on many rivals, and heat slows it further. Maring reported one charge that took nearly four hours because the phone ran so warm. Use a USB-C PD charger with PPS rated at 30W or more and a decent cable, charge with the screen off and the case removed, and clear lint from the port with a wooden toothpick. Also look at Settings › Battery › Charging optimisation: Adaptive Charging or the 80% limit can make it look slower than it is.
Stutter and apps closing on Android 17 QPR1
On 5 October 2026 Android Authority reported that the GrapheneOS team had traced a regression in Android 17 QPR1 to Google-supplied Pixel firmware and drivers. Under memory pressure it can cause stutter, lag, freezes and apps being killed. Because the fault is in Google’s components, stock Pixels on QPR1 can be hit too. GrapheneOS patched it in its own release. At the time of writing, Google hadn’t confirmed a fix for stock Pixels; one could come in a monthly update or in Android 17 QPR2.
Android Authority separately reported gaming problems on the Pixel 10 Pro under Android 17. Tensor G5 also trails Snapdragon and Apple chips in benchmarks, so demanding games may never run as smoothly as on rivals.
Until a fix lands: close apps you aren’t using, restart daily if stutter builds up, lower in-game graphics and frame rate, and install each monthly update when it arrives.
What Google has fixed so far
TechRepublic reports that the October update (security patch level 5 October 2026, build CP3A.261005.005 for Pixel 8, 9 and 10) fixed VoIP call audio noise and distortion on Pixel 8 through Pixel 10. It also fixed a virtual keyboard that sometimes didn’t appear in search fields, and patched several critical vulnerabilities. It rolls out in phases, so keep checking System update.
| Problem | Status on 25 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| VoIP call audio distortion | Fixed in the October 2026 update |
| QPR1 lag and apps being killed | Fixed in GrapheneOS; stock fix not confirmed |
| Dropped calls, Wi-Fi/data flip-flopping | No specific fix announced |
| Idle heat | Waves of reports after the March/April 2026 updates |
| Slow charging | By design (about 30W) |
Safe Mode, then a full reset
- Press and hold the power button (or power and volume up) to open the power menu.
- Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears, then tap OK.
- Use the phone for a few hours. If the heat, drain or lag disappears, a third-party app is behind it.
- Restart normally to leave Safe Mode, and uninstall recent apps one at a time.
- If nothing changes, back up and use Settings › System › Reset options › Erase all data.
Buying a used Pixel 10 Pro
With the Pixel 11 out (see our Pixel 11 and Tensor G6 article), used Pixel 10 Pros have got cheaper. Before you pay, run a Google Pixel Info check for the model, warranty and region. Then make sure it’s unlocked and not blacklisted with a carrier and SIM-lock check; our Pixel carrier unlock article explains the results. On the phone itself, open Settings › Battery › Battery health.
Sending it to Google for repair
No update will fix these:
- It overheats in Safe Mode, or straight after a factory reset with no apps installed.
- Battery health shows a big capacity loss well inside the first year, or the battery or back glass looks swollen.
- Calls drop everywhere, even beside the router on Wi-Fi calling, after a network reset and a new SIM.
- It won’t charge with several chargers and cables that work on other phones.
Contact Google support or an authorised repair partner. Back up your photos and data first, note your warranty status, and only remove your Google account if the repair centre asks you to. Google’s standard warranty length depends on the country where you bought the phone, so check the terms for your region and keep the receipt. If you bought through a carrier, the carrier may handle the exchange instead.
