Scroll a web page on the Moto G Power 2026 and the text leaves a faint trail behind it, like a smudge that takes a moment to catch up. That ghosting is the first of the Moto G Power 2026 problems most owners notice. Then the bedside wireless charger stops working, charging feels slow, and the speakers sound lopsided.

Some of those respond to a setting. Others are just how the phone is built, and knowing which is which saves you a pointless trip to the store. The 2026 model has a 6.8-inch 120 Hz IPS LCD, a 5,200 mAh battery and 30 W TurboPower wired charging, and it’s a fixture at US prepaid carriers and big-box stores. GSMArena’s review praised its call and video battery life but called the screen one of the worst displays it had seen in a while, citing heavy smearing and ghosting.

Ghost trails when you scroll

Text smears when you scroll, moving objects in games blur, and dark scenes show a shadow of the previous frame. Your unit isn’t faulty. The LCD’s pixels switch slowly, so even at 120 Hz the image can’t keep up with fast motion. GSMArena saw the smearing at every refresh rate, especially with slow-moving objects and scrolling text. No update can change how fast the panel physically responds.

You can make it less noticeable:

  1. Set Settings › Display › Refresh rate to 120 Hz instead of Auto. Auto switches rates, and smearing gets more obvious when it drops lower.
  2. Turn brightness up a little. Smearing shows more on dark backgrounds at low brightness.
  3. Use light mode in apps you scroll a lot, like browsers and readers. Dark-to-light transitions leave the worst trails.
  4. If animations bother you, turn them off in Settings › Accessibility › Remove animations (wording may vary).

Coloured lines, dead pixels or flicker are a different matter. Those are a defect, and worth a warranty claim. Compare with another unit in a store if you’re unsure.

Charging: slow by cable, and no wireless at all

Start with the bit that surprises people. Motorola removed wireless charging from the 2026 model. If it won’t charge on your Qi pad, nothing is broken; the hardware isn’t there. Owners coming from the previous Moto G Power often find out when their bedside charger stops working. A short USB-C cable on a stand or dock is the practical replacement. Skip the “wireless charging adapters” that plug into the USB-C port. They’re slow and can stress the port. And if wireless charging matters to you, look at an older Moto G Power or a different model before you buy.

By cable, this isn’t a fast-charging phone by 2026 standards even at full speed. GSMArena measured about 27% in 15 minutes, 47% in 30 minutes and roughly an hour and a half to full. Its testers also found a generic USB Power Delivery charger didn’t reach the full 30 W, and recommend Motorola’s own 33 W charger.

  • Use the 33 W Motorola TurboPower charger and a decent USB-C cable.
  • Look in Settings › Battery for the charging-protection option. The phone can stop at 80% on a schedule or based on your routine. Good for the battery, but it looks a lot like slow charging if you forget it’s on.
  • Power off and clean the port with a wooden toothpick.
  • Charge with the screen off and games closed. The phone slows charging when warm.
  • Try Safe Mode: hold the power button, long-press Power off, confirm Safe mode. If charging is normal there, an app is keeping the phone busy.

Sound comes mostly from the bottom

The G Power has stereo speakers, but according to GSMArena the bottom-firing one is noticeably louder than the earpiece speaker. It still gets very loud overall. So a lopsided sound is expected.

Try the presets or manual equaliser in Settings › Sound & vibration › Dolby Atmos (wording may vary). Brush both grilles gently with a soft, dry brush and check your case isn’t covering the bottom speaker. If the earpiece is quiet on calls at full volume, test with another caller and on speakerphone. A crackling or completely silent earpiece is a hardware fault.

Stretching the 5,200 mAh battery

The battery is solid for video and calls, but gaming drains it faster. Check Settings › Battery › Battery usage for apps with heavy background activity and restrict them. Use 60 Hz when battery matters more than smoothness (Settings › Display › Refresh rate), at the cost of a bit more of that ghosting. Turn on Battery Saver for long days. In weak coverage the modem works harder, so Wi-Fi calling helps indoors if your carrier supports it. And keep the system current in Settings › System › System updates.

Lag, crashes or Wi-Fi drops

For anything that doesn’t fit above, work through this before assuming a fault:

  1. Restart: hold the power button and tap Restart. If the screen is frozen, hold power and volume down together for about ten seconds.
  2. Update in Settings › System › System updates, then update all apps in the Play Store.
  3. Keep 10–15% of storage free in Settings › Storage. A nearly full phone slows down badly.
  4. Clear the problem app’s cache: Settings › Apps › the app › Storage & cache › Clear cache.
  5. For Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or mobile data trouble, use Settings › System › Reset options › Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.
  6. Last resort: back up, note your Google account details, then Settings › System › Reset options › Erase all data.

If the same problem shows up on a freshly reset phone before you’ve installed anything, it’s hardware and a warranty matter.

Buying one second-hand

Lots of these are sold through prepaid carriers, so a carrier lock is the biggest risk. Dial *#06# and run a USA blacklist check to make sure the IMEI isn’t reported lost, stolen or unpaid. Then run a carrier and SIM-lock check; if it came from T-Mobile or Metro, read how to unlock a T-Mobile phone. Confirm the model and warranty with a Motorola Info check. Before switching networks, check whether the phone will work on another carrier, and use the used Motorola checklist for in-person tests.

Getting it repaired

Don’t plan on doing this yourself. Android Headlines, reporting on a teardown by PBKreviews, gave the phone a repairability score of 5 out of 10. The battery is strongly glued with no pull tabs, several ribbon cables (the display cable among them) run underneath it, and replacing the power button or volume rocker means removing the whole screen.

Use Motorola’s warranty service while you’re covered. After that, pick a reputable repair shop, and ask about the screen before you hand the phone over.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fix screen ghosting on the Moto G Power 2026?

You can reduce it but not remove it, because it comes from the LCD panel’s slow response. Set the refresh rate to 120 Hz, raise brightness a little and use light themes in apps you scroll.

Does the Moto G Power 2026 support wireless charging?

No. Motorola dropped it from the 2026 model, so it only charges by USB-C at up to 30 W.

Why is my Moto G Power 2026 charging slowly?

Generic chargers often don’t reach the full 30 W. Use Motorola’s 33 W TurboPower charger, check whether 80% charge protection is on, and clean the port.

How long does the Moto G Power 2026 take to charge?

GSMArena measured about 47% in 30 minutes and around an hour and a half to full with the right charger.

Is the Moto G Power 2026 easy to repair?

Not really. A teardown reported by Android Headlines scored it 5 out of 10 because the battery is strongly glued and cables run underneath it.

Can I use a carrier Moto G Power 2026 on another network?

Only if it’s unlocked and supports that carrier’s bands. Check the lock status from the IMEI and ask the original carrier to unlock it once you meet its policy.
