“Freezing and overheating since day one.” That’s how one owner summed up their Galaxy S25 FE, and a Samsung Members thread titled “Very disappointing – lagging, auto shutdown” tells a similar story. Heat, stutter and random shutdowns are the Galaxy S25 FE problems that come up again and again. Most can be tamed with settings. One of them is a sign you need a technician.

Samsung launched the S25 FE in September 2025 at $649, with the Exynos 2400, a 6.7-inch 120 Hz AMOLED screen, a 4,900 mAh battery and 45 W wired charging. It shipped with One UI 8 on Android 16 and a seven-year update promise. The chip is where most of the trouble starts.

The Exynos 2400 runs hot by design

Reviewers spotted it early. In October 2025 Rutab reported that the S25 FE overheats and loses performance under load. Wccftech, citing Android Authority’s GPU stress tests, said it heats up quickly and throttles harder than the S24 FE: it held about 59–66% of peak performance, against roughly 71–72% for its predecessor, despite a larger vapour chamber. The Exynos 2400 runs its fastest core at a higher clock in the S25 FE, which may explain the extra heat.

So some warmth during games, video calls and long camera sessions is how this phone is built. What you can change is how far it goes:

  1. Go to Settings › Device care › Performance profile and choose Light. You give up a little peak speed and get a cooler, more consistent phone.
  2. If your software still shows Enhanced processing (Settings › Battery › More battery settings), turn it off. Newer One UI versions replace it with the performance profile.
  3. Don’t game or stream while charging. Charging heat stacks on top of processor heat.
  4. Open Game Booster from the game’s navigation bar and set it to prioritise battery or cap the frame rate.
  5. Take a thick case off for long sessions.
  6. Keep apps updated. One buggy version can keep the processor busy in the background.

Stutter, slow app launches and freezes

Scrolling judders, apps take seconds to open, the screen locks up for a moment. On the S25 FE this often follows heat: once the chip throttles, everything feels slower. Nearly full storage, a launcher or widget bug after an update, or a third-party app hogging resources are the other usual suspects.

  • Install updates in Settings › Software update › Download and install.
  • Restart. It sounds too simple, but it clears stuck processes.
  • Keep at least 10–15% of storage free (Settings › Device care › Storage).
  • Run Settings › Device care › Optimise now.
  • Wipe the cache partition. Power off, connect to a computer with a USB-C cable, hold Volume Up and the Side key until recovery opens, select Wipe cache partition and reboot. Your data stays.
  • Try Safe Mode (steps in the next section). If the lag disappears, uninstall recent apps one at a time.
  • As the last software step, use Settings › General management › Reset › Reset all settings. Files stay; preferences go back to default.

When the phone switches itself off

It shuts down with no warning, sometimes during navigation or a call, then boots up as if nothing happened. In that Samsung Members thread, a Samsung Community Manager replied with the standard sequence: update, restart, free storage, run Optimise now and test in Safe Mode. If shutdowns continue in Safe Mode or at idle, Samsung says to have it inspected, because it may be a system or hardware fault.

Safe Mode turns off every app you installed, so it tells you quickly whether one of them is the cause:

  1. Hold the Side key and Volume Down to open the power menu.
  2. Long-press Power off until the Safe mode icon appears, then tap Safe mode.
  3. Use the phone normally for a day. If it stops shutting down, a downloaded app is to blame.
  4. Restart to leave Safe Mode.

Charging stuck, slow or stopping at 80%

If the percentage barely moves, “Super fast charging” never appears, or charging halts at 80%, start with the settings before you blame the battery.

Settings › Battery › Charging settings should have Fast charging and Super fast charging switched on. In Settings › Battery › Battery protection, the Maximum option stops at 80% on purpose. For the full 45 W you need a USB PD PPS charger and a 5 A cable; anything else charges more slowly.

After that, it’s physical. Power off and clean the port with a wooden toothpick or soft brush. Let the phone cool, because Samsung slows charging when the battery is warm, and on this model that’s common after gaming. If a water-drop icon appears, the moisture warning is on, so dry the port completely first. Battery status lives in the Samsung Members app › Support › Phone diagnostics.

Is the Galaxy S26 FE the fix?

According to SamMobile, the S26 FE went on sale on 4 September 2026 at $699 for 128 GB ($799 for 256 GB), $50 more than the S25 FE’s launch price, and it moves to the newer Exynos 2500. If heat and throttling are what bother you, the newer chip is the change that matters.

If your S25 FE is fine day to day on the Light profile, there’s no rush. It still has years of updates ahead. Buyers on a budget can also look at a discounted or used S25 FE, or a previous-generation flagship. Our guide to choosing a used Galaxy model lays out the options.

Buying a used S25 FE? Dial *#06# and run a GSMA blacklist check, then a free All-in-one Basic Info check for model and region. A Samsung Info S2 report adds the original model code and country. Ask the seller to run a game or the camera for ten minutes so you can feel how hot it gets, and look at the battery status in Samsung Members diagnostics.

Before you book a Samsung repair

Launch-day S25 FE units have just passed Samsung’s standard one-year warranty in markets like the US. Buyers in the EU and UK usually have longer statutory protection, and later purchases may still be covered. Shutdowns that continue in Safe Mode, a phone that won’t charge with a known-good charger after cleaning, and overheating at idle all need a technician.

  1. Check the warranty dates and region from the IMEI with a Samsung Info report. Our explainer on how Samsung warranty checks work covers what each field means.
  2. Write down when the problem happens (gaming, charging, idle) and the battery percentage at the time.
  3. Note the software version from Settings › About phone › Software information.
  4. Back up with Smart Switch or your Google account.
  5. Leave your Samsung and Google accounts on unless the technician asks you to remove them.

Intermittent faults like shutdowns are easy to dismiss at a counter if they don’t happen on the spot. Notes with times and battery levels give the technician something to reproduce.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Galaxy S25 FE overheat?

Tests reported by Wccftech and Rutab show its Exynos 2400 heats up quickly and throttles under sustained load. Use the Light performance profile, don’t game while charging, and remove thick cases.

How do I stop my S25 FE from lagging?

Update the software, keep 10–15% of storage free, run Optimise now, wipe the cache partition and test in Safe Mode to find a problem app.

Why does my S25 FE turn off by itself?

An app or corrupted cache can do it, so test in Safe Mode first. If it keeps shutting down in Safe Mode or at idle, Samsung recommends a service centre inspection.

What charger does the Galaxy S25 FE need for fast charging?

A USB Power Delivery charger with PPS and a 5 A USB-C cable for the full 45 W, with Fast charging switched on in Settings › Battery › Charging settings.

Is the Galaxy S26 FE better than the S25 FE?

It has the newer Exynos 2500 and starts at $699 in the US. If heat is your main complaint it’s a real upgrade; otherwise the S25 FE has years of updates left.
