- Verdict: Apple’s 2027 roadmap
The standard iPhone 18 release date is expected in spring 2027, not autumn 2026. Apple launched only the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Duo in September 2026; according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and other reports, the regular iPhone 18, the cheaper iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2 move to a new spring launch slot. Apple has not announced any of them.
This guide maps out the Apple 2027 roadmap month by month — iPhones, the M6 MacBook Air, the first OLED iPad Air, the iPad Pro, WWDC 2027 and iOS 28 — with every item labelled as Apple confirmed, reported or rumoured. It is accurate as of 9 October 2026, and we will update it as dates firm up.

Why didn’t Apple release the iPhone 18 in September 2026?
Because Apple has reportedly split its iPhone launch cycle in two. Under the new pattern, the Pro models (and now the foldable) launch in the autumn, while the standard and lower-cost models launch in the spring. That is exactly what happened in September 2026: Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro ($1,199), iPhone 18 Pro Max ($1,299) and iPhone Duo ($1,999), discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, and raised prices on the iPhone 16, 17, Air and 17e. There was no standard iPhone 18 and no iPhone Air 2.
For buyers, the practical effect is that the iPhone 17 remains Apple’s current standard model until spring 2027. If you want a 2026 iPhone now, your choices are the Pro models or the Duo. Our iPhone 18 Pro vs 17 Pro comparison covers whether the Pro is worth it.
iPhone 18 release date: spring 2027
The standard iPhone 18 is reported for spring 2027 with the A20 chip (the non-Pro version of the chip in the iPhone 18 Pro). Apple has not given a date, a price or a final spec list. Treat any precise day you see quoted as speculation. If you are curious about the A20 family, our A20 Pro specs and security guide explains what the Pro version brings.
iPhone 18e release date: likely March or April 2027
Gurman says the iPhone 18e is “likely” to arrive in March or April 2027. Analysts Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo have suggested it will have 9GB of RAM, which remains a rumour. The “e” model is Apple’s cheaper iPhone, and with price rises on the iPhone 17e this year, its pricing will be worth watching.
iPhone Air 2 release date: spring 2027
The iPhone Air 2 is reportedly coming in spring 2027 with the A20 chip and, notably, a second rear camera — an ultra wide — which the original Air lacks. A lower price is rumoured. For everything known so far, see our iPhone Air 2 release date and specs article.
MacBook Air M6 release date
9to5Mac’s reporting points to an M6 MacBook Air in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes in a February–April 2027 window, with March most likely. The design is expected to stay the same; an OLED MacBook Air is not expected before 2028. A successor to the $599 MacBook Neo is also reportedly in development, without a date.
M6 vs M7: how Apple’s chip line-up changes
The M6 generation is unusual. The base M6 is already shipping in the Mac mini (late September 2026) and is reportedly coming to the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the iMac and then the MacBook Air. But according to Gurman, Apple will not make an M6 Pro or M6 Max. The high-end Macs jump from M5 Pro and M5 Max — reportedly used in the new touchscreen MacBook Pro — straight to M7 Pro and M7 Max in 2027. In short:
- M6: entry Macs (Mac mini now; MacBook Pro 14, iMac and MacBook Air reported).
- M5 Pro / M5 Max: remain Apple’s high-end chips through the touchscreen MacBook Pro launch (reported).
- M7 Pro / M7 Max: the next high-end chips, in 2027 (reported).

iPad Air OLED 2027 and iPad Pro 2027
Gurman reports the iPad Air will get its first OLED display plus a chip upgrade in early 2027. The current iPad Air uses the M4 chip and launched in March 2026. The iPad Pro is expected to get a chip upgrade and a vapor chamber for cooling around spring 2027 — that timing is an estimate. A low-cost iPad aimed at children and students, and two new Apple Pencils, are reported for around the same period.
WWDC 2027 and iOS 28 release date
Apple has not announced WWDC 2027. The pattern is an early-to-mid June keynote — WWDC 2026 opened on 8 June — so expect the date to be announced in the spring. iOS 28 is reportedly codenamed “Bell”, and Gurman describes it as “far more significant” than iOS 27. By Apple’s usual schedule, iOS 28 would be previewed at WWDC and released to the public in September 2027; iOS 27 was released on 14 September 2026. That is a pattern, not a confirmed date.
Apple smart glasses
Apple’s first AI smart glasses — reportedly without a display — are expected to be announced at WWDC 2027 and ship later in 2027, according to reports. Nothing has been confirmed.
The 20th-anniversary iPhone
For September 2027, a 20th-anniversary iPhone with a curved, bezel-free display is rumoured. It is the furthest-out and least certain item on this list.
Should you buy now or wait? Product by product
Standard iPhone: buy now only if you need it
The iPhone 17 is Apple’s current standard model until spring 2027. If your phone is failing, buy now — ideally a well-checked used model. If your phone works fine, waiting roughly five to six months for the iPhone 18 gets you the A20 chip.
Budget iPhone: wait for the 18e if you can
With the 17e’s price recently raised, buying it now means paying more for a model reportedly due for replacement in March or April.
iPhone Air: wait
The Air 2 reportedly fixes the original’s biggest weakness — the single rear camera. Unless you find a heavily discounted used Air, waiting makes sense.
MacBook Air: depends on your Mac
If you are on an Intel Mac, note that macOS 27 is Apple-silicon only; a current M-series MacBook Air or a used one is a sensible move now. If you already have an Apple silicon Air, wait for the M6 in early 2027.
iPad Air: wait for OLED unless you need it now
The OLED iPad Air is reported for early 2027. The M4 iPad Air is still a strong tablet, so buy it if you see a good discount and don’t care about OLED.
iPad Pro: no rush
The 2027 update is reportedly a chip and cooling bump, not a redesign. A discounted current iPad Pro remains a good buy.
iPhone Duo or iPhone 18 Pro: no 2027 replacement yet
The Pro models and the Duo stay on the autumn cycle, so nothing in current reporting replaces them before September 2027. If you want one, there is no spring launch to wait for. Just be aware of early issues: Apple has confirmed an AT&T “SOS” problem on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max units, covered in our iPhone 18 Pro Max SOS fix guide.
Buying used while you wait
A used iPhone or iPad is the obvious bridge until the spring launches — but the used market is also where stolen and finance-locked devices end up. Before you pay, run these checks:
- Run the free All-in-one basic info check to confirm the model and that Find My is off.
- Run a GSMA blacklist check to make sure the IMEI is not reported lost or stolen.
- Confirm the exact model, colour and storage with a Model + Colour + Storage + FMI check so you are not sold a cheaper variant.
- For high-value phones, an Apple full GSX report shows warranty status, repair history and sold-by details.
Our used iPhone buying checklist walks through every step, and iPhone trade-in value 2026 shows what your current phone is worth if you sell before upgrading.
Verdict: Apple’s 2027 roadmap
2027 is shaping up as a busy year: a spring iPhone launch with the iPhone 18, 18e and Air 2, the M6 MacBook Air, the first OLED iPad Air, M7 Pro and Max chips, a bigger iOS 28 at WWDC, and possibly smart glasses and a 20th-anniversary iPhone. But almost all of it is reported rather than confirmed, and dates move. As of 9 October 2026, Apple has announced none of these products. We will update this roadmap as Apple confirms dates.
