The original iPhone Air launched in September 2025 as Apple’s thinnest phone ever — 5.64 mm and 165 g. Many people expected the iPhone Air 2 at Apple’s September 2026 event. It didn’t appear: Apple announced only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Duo. So where is it?
Release date: spring 2027
- The Information (November 2025) reported that the Air 2 was pushed from fall 2026 to spring 2027.
- Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) says it was always planned for 2027 and is in advanced testing, targeting spring 2027 — the same window as the standard iPhone 18 and 18e.
- A Weibo leaker’s claim of a “minor refresh in fall 2026” turned out to be wrong.
Rumored specs
- Chip: a 2nm A20-generation chip (Gurman), which should help battery life — the original Air’s weakest point.
- Cameras: a second rear camera, an ultra wide joining the 48MP main (Bloomberg, The Information). The first Air had only one rear camera.
- Battery and cooling: a larger battery and a vapor chamber (The Information).
- Design: the same ultra-thin look, possibly lighter.
- Price: unclear. One GSMArena report suggested it could be cheaper than the original’s $999; others expect a small increase.

Should you wait for the Air 2?
If battery life and a single camera bother you, waiting makes sense. If you want the Air’s design now, used and refurbished first-generation units are getting cheaper — just remember it is eSIM-only, so check it carefully.
- Run a free All-in-one check to confirm it’s really an iPhone Air and Find My is OFF.
- Run a GSMA blacklist and carrier lock check.
- An MPN check shows the region and whether it’s a replacement unit.
