You swipe three fingers down to turn the volume up, and Auto Rotate switches on instead. Of the Galaxy Z Fold7 problems that showed up after One UI 9, that’s the one owners noticed first. The others: phones stuck on a setup screen after the update, and the usual drop in battery life.
All three have fixes that don’t touch your data. Further down are the foldable issues that stay with the phone whatever software it runs: the crease, the inner screen protector and repairs.
How One UI 9 reached the Fold7
According to gHacks and Droid Life, the stable Android 17-based One UI 9 update started rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 on 29 September 2026 in South Korea, and reached the US in early October. Phones that had been on the beta got a package of a few hundred megabytes. Everyone else downloaded a full build of several gigabytes.
Before that, One UI 9 beta 3 (17 September) had already fixed a lock-screen notification panel bug and improved camera stability on the Fold7 and Flip7, as SamMobile reported. The stable release adds Now Nudge, My FanCam, a more customisable Quick Panel, separate auto-rotate settings for the cover and main screens, and a new Warranty and Care menu. Our One UI 9 rollout tracker lists dates by region and carrier.
The three-finger volume swipe toggles Auto Rotate
Sammy Fans reported on 3 October 2026 that after One UI 9, some Fold7 owners found the three-finger swipe no longer changed the volume reliably. A short swipe up or down toggled Auto Rotate instead, and slow swipes moved the volume one step at a time. Turning on multi-direction gestures didn’t fix it for everyone.
The multi-finger gesture comes from Samsung’s Good Lock / Home Up customisation, and it depends on how the navigation bar is set up. One UI 9 also split rotation controls between the cover and main screens, so a stray rotation toggle is easier to notice.
- Go to Settings › Display › Navigation bar and pick Swipe gestures (multiple directions). A Samsung Community moderator said the Home Up multi-finger gesture only works in this mode.
- In Settings › Modes and Routines, turn off any routine that changes the volume. Samsung said these can interfere.
- Update Good Lock and Home Up from Galaxy Store.
- Restart after changing the settings.
- Still wrong? Record the screen when it happens and send the clip with logs through Samsung Members › Support › Error reports (“Send Error”), which is what Samsung asked for.
Until Samsung patches it, lock rotation for each screen from the Quick Panel and avoid quick three-finger flicks. If you never use the multi-finger gesture, switch it off in Home Up and the accidental rotation stops altogether.
Frozen on an “Access Denied” XML page after rebooting
Sammy Fans and Android Authority reported on 12 October 2026 that some Galaxy phones show an XML “Access Denied” page, or freeze on the setup screens, once One UI 9 installs and reboots. The reports came from the S26, S25 and S24 series and at least one foldable. Samsung hadn’t confirmed a cause at the time. A tipster suggested a server-side change.
The phone isn’t bricked. These workarounds were reported to get past it without erasing anything:
- Force restart by holding Side key + Volume down.
- Cut the internet. Turn the Wi-Fi router off, or take the SIM out if you can’t reach settings.
- Boot into Safe Mode (hold Volume down as the Samsung logo appears), turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data, then restart normally.
- Finish setup offline and reconnect afterwards.
Leave the factory reset until nothing else works. For a related S26 Ultra setup freeze, Samsung’s own advice was to update Android System WebView from the Play Store once you’re in, or to switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Both are worth trying here.
Shorter battery life in the first two weeks
Expect less screen-on time and faster idle drain for a while after updating. The S24 and S25 have had similar complaints after One UI 9.
- Give it about a week. Android re-optimises apps after a big update, and Sammy Fans says that can take up to two weeks.
- Look at Settings › Battery › View details for apps using power in the background. Put them in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps under Background usage limits.
- If you don’t need 120Hz on the main screen, lower it in Settings › Display › Motion smoothness.
- Wipe the system cache from Recovery mode: power off, hold Side key + Volume up while connected to a PC or charger, then choose Wipe cache partition. Personal data stays.
- Test the battery in Samsung Members › Diagnostics. Drain that won’t go away on a degraded battery is a job for a service centre.
Looking after the crease and the inner screen
Every foldable has a crease. The Fold7’s is shallower than on earlier models, but it can get more visible over time, or if the factory screen protector starts to lift. Most inner-screen failures come down to habits:
- Leave the inner protector on. It’s part of the display stack. If it bubbles or lifts at the edges, a Samsung service centre can replace it.
- Keep the hinge clean. Grit caught between the halves can mark the screen. The Fold7 is rated IP48, which covers water but not fine dust.
- Close it gently, and don’t press on the crease with a fingernail or an unsupported stylus.
- Stop at the first line. A line, dead strip or flicker along the fold can spread. Stop using the inner screen and book a repair.
Is the warranty still running?
The Fold7 launched in July 2025. For many launch-day phones the standard one-year manufacturer warranty has now ended, unless you bought Samsung Care+ or live in the UK or EU, where longer legal rights apply. One UI 9 adds a Warranty and Care menu in Settings. You can also confirm the dates from the IMEI with our Samsung IMEI and warranty check guide, and a Samsung Info report shows the original country and carrier as well.
Checking a used Fold7 in person
A used Fold7 can be a good buy, but foldables hide expensive faults. Model numbers are explained in our used Galaxy buying guide. At the handover:
- Open and close it 20 times. Look for flicker, lines or a lifting protector on the inner screen.
- Feel the hinge for grinding or uneven resistance.
- Disque
*#06#for the IMEI and run a Verificação de blacklist GSMA and a carrier and SIM-lock check. - Watch the seller remove their Samsung account and Google account before you pay.
If One UI 9 is still waiting on your phone
There’s no strong reason to hold off. The gesture bug has a settings workaround and the setup error clears without data loss. If you use the three-finger volume gesture every day, or you’re about to travel and can’t risk a phone stuck on setup, waiting for Samsung’s next monthly patch is reasonable too. When you do install:
- Back up with Samsung Cloud or Smart Switch, and check Google backup is on.
- Charge to at least 50% and use a stable Wi-Fi network.
- Have your Samsung account and Google account passwords to hand. You may be asked for them after the reboot.
- Install from Settings › Software update › Download and install, and let the restart finish without interrupting it.
Perguntas frequentes
Why is the three-finger gesture not working on my Z Fold7?
Since One UI 9 it only works reliably with the navigation bar set to Swipe gestures (multiple directions). Turn off volume routines in Modes and Routines too.
Why does Auto Rotate keep turning on on my Fold7?
A short three-finger swipe can toggle Auto Rotate after One UI 9. Change the navigation setting, or switch off the multi-finger gesture in Home Up.
My Z Fold7 is stuck on an Access Denied screen after updating. What do I do?
Force restart, then finish setup offline by removing the SIM or turning off Wi-Fi. Safe Mode with Wi-Fi and data off, followed by a normal restart, also worked for users.
Will the Z Fold7 battery drain improve after One UI 9?
It usually does once optimisation finishes, which can take one to two weeks. If it doesn’t, check battery use by app and run Samsung Members diagnostics.
Can I remove the Fold7 inner screen protector?
No. It’s part of the display. If it lifts or bubbles, get it replaced at a Samsung service centre.
