A 7,500mAh battery shouldn’t be asking for a charger by early evening. When it does, usually right after an update, it’s one of the Oppo Find X9 Pro problems that people start searching for a year into ownership, along with heat during games, camera glitches and weak signal on imported units. ColorOS 17 is rolling out now and the Find X10 is in shops, so the other question is whether to fix the X9 Pro or replace it.
Fixes first, upgrade question near the end.
Where your Find X9 Pro is now: ColorOS 16 to 17
The Find X9 Pro launched in October 2025 on ColorOS 16 (Android 16), which Oppo released alongside the Find X9 series. Inside are MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, a 7,500mAh silicon-carbon battery and a 200MP Hasselblad periscope telephoto. Your current software is listed in Settings › About device.
ColorOS 17, based on Android 17, started its stable rollout in October 2026, according to TelecomTalk, with the schedule running into the first quarter of 2027. The X9 Pro is on the list. It brings a new “Living Flow” design, a reworked Control Centre, performance engines aimed at quicker app launches and better background retention, and AI features such as AI Call Guard, which flags possible voice-impersonation scams.
To install it without drama:
- Back up with Oppo Cloud, Google One or a computer.
- Charge to at least 50% and join Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings › Software update (or tap the ColorOS card in Settings › About device) and install when it’s offered.
- Restart once it’s finished, then update all your apps.
- Wait two or three days before deciding what you think of the battery.
The battery isn’t lasting like it used to
More overnight loss than before, shorter screen-on time after an update, or one app keeping the phone awake. After any big ColorOS update the system re-optimises apps and rebuilds its indexes, and that costs battery for a few days. Drain that lasts longer than that usually comes from apps launching themselves in the background, poor signal, or features like Always-On Display.
- Restart and update every app in the Play Store and App Market.
- Look at Settings › Battery to see which apps used the most.
- In Settings › Battery › App battery management, pick the heavy apps and turn off Auto launch, Launch apps in the background and background activity for anything that doesn’t need to run.
- Turn off Always-On Display if you don’t use it, and bring down brightness or refresh rate.
- Weak 5G where you live? Try 4G only for a day. A phone constantly hunting for 5G burns through charge.
- Check Settings › Battery › Battery health. If capacity looks low for the phone’s age, talk to Oppo service.
Hot during games, 4K video or fast charging
The Dimensity 9500 is quick, but long gaming sessions, 4K recording, wireless charging and fast charging all produce heat. Do two of them at once and you’ll feel it. A warm phone for a day or two after an update is also normal.
- Install the latest ColorOS and game updates.
- Drop graphics quality and frame rate in demanding games, and close background apps before you start.
- Don’t game or film long videos on the charger.
- Take the case off for fast charging, and use the original SUPERVOOC charger or a certified compatible one.
- Hot while idle? Check Settings › Battery for something running in the background, then restart.
Heat with nothing running, again and again, is a hardware warning sign. Book a service.
Camera lag, crashes or haze at long zoom
Camera trouble on a flagship is usually software, and it tends to show up just after an update.
- Update ColorOS and restart.
- Force-stop the camera and clear its cache in Settings › Apps › App management › Camera › Storage usage › Clear cache.
- Wipe every lens with a microfibre cloth. A fingerprint on the periscope makes long-zoom shots hazy.
- Remove magnetic cases or lens add-ons that could interfere with stabilisation.
If one lens stays black, shakes or buzzes after a restart and update, it needs repair.
No 5G or weak signal on an imported phone
This comes up most on imports, particularly Chinese models used elsewhere, because band support differs between regions.
- Toggle Airplane mode, then restart.
- In Settings › Mobile network › SIM, set preferred network type to 5G/4G auto.
- Search Settings for “Reset network settings” and run it. Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings are removed.
- Ask your carrier to send APN settings and to confirm VoLTE and 5G are enabled for your handset.
- Compare the phone’s 4G and 5G bands with your carrier’s. Software can’t add a band the hardware doesn’t have.
Imports also need checking for Google certification. Our Play Protect certified check shows how.
Find X9 Pro or Find X10?
According to GSMArena, the Find X10 series went on sale in the UK, Germany, France and other European markets on 21 October 2026.
| Find X9 Pro | Find X10 | Find X10 Pro Max | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chip | Dimensity 9500 | Dimensity 9600M | Dimensity 9600 Pro (2nm) |
| Battery (Europe) | 7,500mAh | 7,150mAh | 7,150mAh |
| Launch software | ColorOS 16 (Android 16) | ColorOS 17 (Android 17) | ColorOS 17 (Android 17) |
| Price | Discounted, used and refurbished | €1,300 / £1,100 (256GB) | €1,800 / £1,500 (512GB) |
The X10 Pro Max has a triple 200MP rear camera, and the X10 gets 200MP main and telephoto cameras. European X10 models carry smaller batteries than the 8,000mAh Chinese versions, so your X9 Pro actually has more capacity. If yours runs well, ColorOS 17 gives you most of the new software anyway. The upgrade is really for people who want the newest cameras. Chip comparisons are in our guide to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Dimensity 9600 phones.
Is it hardware? Warranty and repair
Rule out software first: restart, install the latest update, and try the problem with a different SIM, charger or network. If it’s still there, these point to hardware:
- Hot while idle and unplugged, or shutting down well above 10%.
- A bulging back panel or a screen lifting at one edge, which can mean a swollen battery. Stop charging it and get it checked now.
- One camera black, rattling or buzzing in every app.
- No signal with several SIMs on a band your carrier definitely uses.
- Lines, a green tint or dead touch areas that survive a restart.
A Find X9 Pro bought at launch in late 2025 is now at or past the end of a one-year warranty (longer in some markets), so check your purchase date and local terms. In the UK and EU you may have extra rights against the retailer for faults present at delivery. Use an official Oppo service centre with genuine parts, because a third-party repair can affect water resistance and later warranty claims. Back up first: service centres often reset the phone.
Checklist for a used Find X9 Pro
Prices are falling now the X10 is out, which makes the X9 Pro tempting second-hand. Before you pay:
- Run a manufacturer and model check to confirm the model and region.
- Run a GSMA blacklist check so you know it isn’t reported lost or stolen.
- See the seller sign out of their Google and Oppo accounts.
- Try every camera, plug in a charger, and put your own SIM in.
- For an import, compare its bands with your carrier’s before agreeing a price.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Find X9 Pro getting ColorOS 17?
It’s on the eligible list. The stable rollout started in October 2026 and runs into early 2027, varying by region.
Why is my Find X9 Pro battery draining fast?
After a big update the phone re-optimises for a few days. If drain continues, turn off Auto launch and background activity for heavy apps in App battery management.
Why does it get hot?
Gaming, 4K video and fast charging all produce heat, especially together. Update, lower game settings and don’t use it heavily while charging.
Why doesn’t my imported Find X9 Pro get 5G?
It may not support your carrier’s 5G bands. Reset network settings and check APN settings, but missing bands can’t be added by software.
Should I upgrade to the Find X10?
Only for the newest cameras or chip. ColorOS 17 brings most of the new software to the X9 Pro, and European X10 models have a smaller battery.
