5.0GHz. That’s the top speed of the prime cores in the chip inside the Motorola Signature 27, the first mobile CPU cores to pass 5GHz, and the phone was one of the first shown with it at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in September. Motorola added a 200MP periscope telephoto, Bang & Olufsen audio and a promise of seven years of OS updates.
What it didn’t give was a price or a release date. Here’s what’s confirmed, what isn’t, and what that update promise means if you buy one new or second-hand.
What Motorola showed in September
Motorola revealed the Signature 27 around the Snapdragon Summit on 22–23 September 2026. It’s the second generation of Motorola’s premium Signature line, and GSMArena describes it as “among the first smartphones” with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Motorola shared the key hardware and design details and held back full specifications, pricing and dates.

Inside: chip, cooling, cameras and sound
Qualcomm’s top chip this generation is built on a 2nm process with two prime cores and six performance cores. According to ProPakistani’s launch coverage, the prime cores reach 5.0GHz and the performance cores 4.0GHz. The same chip powers the China-only OnePlus 16. Every phone using it, plus MediaTek’s rival, is listed in our Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Dimensity 9600 phones guide.
A 5GHz chip in a slim phone needs serious cooling. Motorola’s ArcticMesh system combines diamond-infused thermal gel, liquid metal, copper mesh and a redesigned 3D vapor chamber that Motorola says is 40% larger than last generation’s, a figure Android Authority and 9to5Google both reported. Whether it holds performance steady through long games won’t be known until reviewers test it.
The main camera uses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 sensor with 3.5-degree optical image stabilisation, according to GSMArena. The bigger news is the 200MP periscope telephoto, which should hold more detail when you zoom and crop than the usual 50MP or 64MP periscopes. There are four rear sensors in total, and Motorola hasn’t detailed the other two. It also mentioned an AI video engine that adjusts colour tones while you record.
This is Motorola’s first phone with Audio by Bang & Olufsen tuning, and the B&O name is on the back. It comes in two Pantone colours: Coal Smoke, with a woven, grippy texture, and Capulet Green, with a brushed, textile-style finish (GSMArena calls it Capulet Olive). 91mobiles reports an aluminium frame with curved edges and a camera module in ceramic and brushed aluminium.
Price and release date so far
Motorola has not announced a price. 91mobiles suggested it could land around the Rs 1 lakh mark in India because of record RAM and storage costs. That’s the outlet’s estimate, not Motorola’s. Memory prices have pushed phone prices up across the industry this year, so expect it to cost more than Motorola’s previous Edge flagships. We’ll update this page when official pricing appears.
- Global: Motorola says it launches worldwide later in 2026, with no exact date.
- USA and North America: 9to5Google reports Motorola has confirmed a North American launch “in the coming months”. No carrier partners have been named.
- India: Motorola’s Shivam Ranjan confirmed at India Mobile Congress that India is part of the first global wave, according to 91mobiles.
In the US, check which version you’re buying. Carrier versions may be locked to that carrier, while unlocked versions bought direct work more widely. Our guide to checking a used OnePlus or Motorola explains the difference.
Still unannounced
Motorola has shown only part of the phone. These are still open:
- Battery and charging. No capacity or speeds yet. That matters, because rivals on the same chip, the OnePlus 16 among them, now ship with very large batteries.
- Display. Size, resolution and refresh rate.
- The other two rear cameras. Only the main camera and periscope have been detailed.
- Water and dust rating.
- RAM and storage options, and which regions get which.
- Carrier deals in the US, UK or Middle East.
Treat any detailed spec sheet that appears before the official launch as a leak. Be wary too of pre-order listings from unofficial sellers quoting fixed prices or shipping dates.
Seven years of updates, counted from launch
The biggest change for owners might not be hardware. Motorola promises seven years of OS upgrades, and 9to5Google reports that covers Android OS and security updates. That matches the seven-year policies Samsung and Google offer on their flagships and is longer than the support Motorola has announced for most of its earlier phones.
In practice, a phone that keeps getting security patches stays safe for banking and work for longer. Buyers also pay more for used phones with years of updates left, and a Signature 27 bought second-hand in 2028 or 2029 should still have years of support remaining.
Worth waiting for?
If you want a Motorola flagship and plan to keep it for years, yes. The update promise alone makes it a better long-term buy than older Motorola models. If you need a phone now, current Samsung and Google flagships already offer seven years of support. And if you were eyeing the OnePlus 16, OnePlus no longer launches new phones in North America and Europe, so the Signature 27 is likely to be one of the few phones with this chip sold officially in the US.
Timing matters too. New flagships usually get their first discounts a few months after launch, and early software tends to get bug-fix updates in the first weeks. If you don’t need to be first, waiting for reviews and that first round of fixes is the lower-risk move, and it shows you whether the battery and display live up to the chip and camera.
Checking an imported or used Signature 27
Expect imports on marketplaces before the local launch, and used phones later. Before you buy:
- Ask for the IMEI (dial
*#06#) and run a Motorola Info check to confirm model, region and warranty. - Run a GSMA blacklist check so you know it hasn’t been reported lost or stolen.
- If you’ll use a different network, run a carrier and SIM-lock check.
- Make sure the seller has removed their Google account, or the phone will lock after a reset.
