Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8: Specs, Chips, Prices and Security

Samsung revealed its 2026 foldables at Galaxy Unpacked in late July, and they went on sale on 7 August 2026 in 106 markets. For the first time there are two Fold models, and the lineup is the first to ship with One UI 9, based on Android 17.

The three new foldables

The Fold8 Ultra is the headline: Samsung finally put its 200MP Ultra-class main camera into a book-style foldable, with a larger 8-inch inner display. No tri-fold or Flip FE was announced at this event.

Which chip?

The Fold models are reported to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, like the S26 Ultra. The Z Flip8 is reported by SamMobile and GSMArena to use Samsung’s own 2nm Exynos 2600 worldwide — the same chip found in the international Galaxy S26 and S26+. One retailer listed Snapdragon, so check the model code on any unit you buy.

Security on Samsung’s foldables

• Knox Vault protects passwords, keys and fingerprint data in an isolated chip.
• One UI 9 adds better security and privacy alerts on top of Android 17’s theft protection, which turns Theft Detection Lock and Remote Lock on by default on new devices.
• Auto Blocker stops sideloaded apps and malicious USB commands.
• Seven years of updates, like the S26 series.

Buying a used foldable: extra checks

Foldables cost a lot to repair, so condition matters more than on a normal phone:

• Inspect the crease and inner screen in bright light; dead lines or a lifting protector are expensive problems.
• Open and close the hinge 20 times — it should feel even, with no grinding.
• Run a Samsung info check to confirm the exact model (Fold8 vs Fold8 Ultra), sale country and warranty.
• Check the GSMA blacklist and the carrier lock.
• Make sure the Samsung and Google accounts are removed, or FRP will lock the phone after a reset.
