A 7,200mAh battery in a phone 7.69mm thick is the reason most people are looking at the vivo V80. It launched in India on 6 October 2026 from Rs 62,999, with a 144Hz AMOLED and ZEISS-tuned cameras alongside that battery.
It also keeps last year’s chip, and according to some reports uses older memory and storage than the V70. That makes the upgrade question more interesting than the spec sheet suggests.
Prices, colours and where to buy

| 8GB RAM + 128GB | Rs 62,999 |

Pre-booking opened on launch day, and the phone went on sale on 13 October 2026 through vivo’s online store, Flipkart, Amazon and partner shops, according to Tech-ish and Beebom. It comes in Sunrise Anthem, Horizon Blue and Stellar Black.
Business Today lists launch offers including an instant 10% discount on selected bank cards or an exchange bonus of up to 10%, plus six months of 100GB Google One storage. Offers vary by bank and retailer, so check the final price at checkout.

Battery. 91mobiles notes the cell is 700mAh bigger than the V70’s 6,500mAh, and the silicon-carbon anode is what keeps the phone at 7.69mm. Charging stays at 90W, and vivo still puts the charger in the box, which is increasingly rare. Bypass charging runs the phone straight from the charger during long gaming sessions, so the battery doesn’t heat up.
Display. The flat 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED now goes up to 144Hz (the V70 stops at 120Hz), with 5,000 nits local peak, 1,800 nits in high-brightness mode and HDR10+.
Cameras. The V series has always sold on its cameras. The V80 has a 50MP ZEISS main camera on a Sony LYTIA 700V sensor, a 50MP ZEISS Night Telephoto with 3x optical zoom and an 8MP ultrawide. The 50MP front camera has autofocus and a 92° field of view for group selfies. ZEISS Multifocal Portrait gives you five lens styles, and an Aura Light fill light with two colour temperatures helps portraits in dim rooms.

The memory and storage rows are from Tech-ish, which points out that the V80’s LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage are a generation behind the V70’s. Day to day, that can mean slightly slower app installs and file transfers. The processor is identical. 91mobiles concludes that the V70 “offers better value” if you don’t need the bigger battery.
8GB of RAM, and only 8GB
There’s no 12GB model. For social media, streaming, photos and most games, 8GB is enough today, and vivo adds up to 16GB of “virtual RAM” that borrows part of the storage as overflow memory. That helps keep more apps open in the background, but it’s far slower than real RAM, so 8GB plus 16GB is not the same as 24GB. If you keep phones for five or six years, which the six-year security promise invites, the missing 12GB option is the V80’s biggest long-term compromise.
OriginOS 7 and how long updates last
The V80 ships with OriginOS 7 on Android 17, and vivo promises six years of security updates. The number of major Android upgrades is less clear. Tech-ish reports that vivo’s footnote says the security updates “do not include upgrades to major or minor OS versions” and gives no upgrade count, while 91mobiles lists four OS upgrades. Until vivo clears it up, count on six years of security patches and check vivo India’s product page for the current commitment.
Whichever phone you buy, make sure it’s Google-certified so banking and payment apps keep working. Our guide to checking Play Protect certification shows how to confirm it from the Play Store settings in under a minute.
Which buyers it suits
The V80 makes sense if battery life comes first, you want the newest software and a 144Hz screen, and you like having a charger in the box. From a V60 or older, it’s a real step up in battery, refresh rate and software. From a V70, skip it, because the changes are mostly battery and refresh rate. And if you want faster memory and storage and more base storage for less money, look for a discounted V70, since the cameras and chip are very close.
Timing is worth thinking about. Launch prices in India rarely last. Bank cashback, exchange bonuses and festive sales on Flipkart and Amazon regularly take money off new mid-rangers in their first months, so unless your current phone is failing, waiting a few weeks costs you little. If you buy now, the 8GB/256GB model at Rs 69,999 is the sensible pick: double the base storage for Rs 7,000 more, without the big jump to 512GB. Buy from an authorised seller and keep the invoice for warranty.

Looking after a 7,200mAh battery
- Charge with the included 90W charger or another one that supports vivo FlashCharge. Generic chargers are much slower.
- Turn on bypass charging when you game plugged in, so the phone runs from the charger instead of cycling the battery.
- Keep it cool. Charging under a pillow or on a sunny dashboard ages lithium cells faster than anything else.
- Look in Settings › Battery for a charging protection or smart charging option so it doesn’t sit at 100% all night.
- On a long trip, drop the display to 120Hz or 60Hz for maximum endurance.
Checking a used or imported V80
Popular mid-rangers show up fast on resale sites, along with refurbished and sometimes fake units. Before you pay:
- Dial
*#06#and match the IMEI to the box and the SIM tray. - Run a manufacturer and model check to confirm it’s really a V80, and the right variant.
- Run a GSMA blacklist check so you know it isn’t reported lost or stolen.
- Check that Settings › About phone shows OriginOS 7 and the RAM and storage in the listing.
- Have the seller remove their vivo and Google accounts and reset the phone while you watch.
