iOS 27 supports every iPhone from the iPhone 11 (2019) and iPhone SE (2nd generation) onward — the same list as iOS 26. Apple confirmed the list when it previewed iOS 27 on 8 June 2026, and despite earlier leaks, no iPhone was dropped this year. The newest features, including Siri AI, need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, so “supported” doesn’t always mean “gets everything.”

Below you’ll find the full list of iOS 27 supported devices, the iPads, Apple Watches and Macs that get this year’s updates, which iPhones are no longer supported, and how many years of updates Apple typically gives. If you’re buying a used iPhone, the last section shows how to confirm the exact model before you pay.

iOS 27 supported devices: the full iPhone list

MacRumors reported on 8 June 2026 that “iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and newer,” and AppleInsider confirmed the second-generation iPhone SE remains on the list. iOS 27 was released to the public on 14 September 2026. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max shipped with it, and the iPhone Duo foldable ships with iOS 27.1 on 23 October.

That’s more than 30 models. If your iPhone is on this list, you’ll find the update in Settings › General › Software Update.

Does iPhone 11 get iOS 27?

Yes. The iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max all get iOS 27, and so does the iPhone SE (2nd generation), which uses the same A13 Bionic chip. This surprised some owners, because several leaks predicted otherwise.

In May and June 2026, a Weibo leaker known as Instant Digital claimed iOS 27 would drop four models: the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max and second-generation SE (reported by 9to5Mac on 21 May and MacRumors on 4 June). Apple’s official list on 8 June proved that wrong. AppleInsider summed it up: Apple didn’t drop a single iPhone from its iOS 27 compatibility list.

Siri AI and Apple Intelligence: hardware requirements

Running iOS 27 and getting every iOS 27 feature are two different things. Apple Intelligence features, including the new Siri AI, require an iPhone 15 Pro or later. According to TidBITS’ breakdown of Apple’s requirements (20 July 2026), the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus and everything older run iOS 27 without those features, because they lack the processing power and memory.

  • Siri AI launched in beta on 14 September 2026, in English only, according to Apple and reports such as The Verge’s. Apple has said usage limits may apply.
  • More languages: the iOS 27.2 beta adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish (MacTrast, 16 September).
  • EU: Siri AI is not initially available in the EU on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, according to reports on Apple’s availability notes.
  • Top-tier features: TidBITS reports that Siri customization and improved dictation were limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air at the time of Apple’s announcement.

If AI features are the reason you’re upgrading, an iPhone 15 Pro is the oldest model that qualifies. That makes the 15 Pro and 16 family popular targets on the used market.

Which iPhones are no longer supported?

No iPhone lost support with iOS 27. The most recent cut came with iOS 26 in 2025, which dropped the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR. Here’s the iPhone end of support list for recent models:

iPhoneLaunched withLast major iOSMajor versions received
iPhone XS, XS Max, XRiOS 12 (2018)iOS 187
iPhone X, 8, 8 PlusiOS 11 (2017)iOS 166
iPhone 7, 7 PlusiOS 10 (2016)iOS 156
iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, SE (1st gen)iOS 9 (2015/2016)iOS 157 (6s)
iPhone 6, 6 PlusiOS 8 (2014)iOS 125
iPhone 11 family (for comparison)iOS 13 (2019)iOS 27 so far8 and counting

Note the jump in numbering: Apple went from iOS 18 (2024) straight to iOS 26 (2025) to match the year after release, so iOS 27 is the 2026–2027 release, not a ninth version after 18.

Is my iPhone too old?

If your iPhone is an XS, XR or older, it can’t install iOS 27. It still works, but you’ll gradually lose app compatibility as developers raise their minimum iOS version, and security fixes become less frequent. Banking and payment apps are usually the first to stop supporting old versions.

Not sure which model you have? Go to Settings › General › About and look at Model Name. If the phone won’t turn on or you’re checking one you don’t own yet, the model is also identified by its IMEI or serial number, which you can run through a free check. Knowing the exact model tells you not only whether it gets iOS 27, but roughly how many more years of updates it’s likely to receive — which matters both for your own security and for resale value.

How long does Apple support iPhones?

Apple doesn’t publish a fixed update promise for major iOS versions, but the track record is consistent. Recent iPhones have received six to eight years of major iOS updates, and the iPhone 11 is now on its eighth. On top of that, Apple usually keeps shipping security patches for the previous major version for a period after a phone stops getting new releases.

For a formal minimum, look at the UK’s Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) rules. In its UK compliance statement for the iPhone 15, Apple committed to at least five years of security updates from the date the model was first supplied. In practice Apple has gone well beyond that, but five years is the figure it has put in writing.

How that compares with Android: Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series and Google’s Pixel 11 series both promise seven years of OS and security updates. Apple’s real-world record is similar; the difference is that Apple doesn’t commit to a number in advance.

Security updates for older iOS versions

When iOS 27 launched, Apple also released iOS 26.7 on 14 September 2026 with roughly 80 security fixes, according to Macworld, for people who want to stay on iOS 26. Two cautions apply:

  • Older versions get fewer fixes. Macworld notes iOS 26.7 includes fewer fixes than iOS 27 because of deep low-level changes in the new release. Apple’s own security release notes have long warned that not every known issue is addressed in previous versions, so the newest release is always the best-protected one.
  • The window is limited. Apple doesn’t publish an end date. Phones that can’t move past iOS 18 or iOS 16 receive patches irregularly, then not at all.

If your iPhone supports iOS 27, the most secure choice is to install it. If it doesn’t, keep it on the newest version it can run and avoid using it for banking on public Wi-Fi.

iPadOS 27 supported iPads

iPadOS 27 drops five models, according to AppleInsider (8 June 2026): the 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation, 2018), the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation, 2018), the iPad Air (3rd generation, 2019), the iPad mini (5th generation, 2019) and the iPad (8th generation, 2020).

Apple Intelligence on iPad needs an M-series chip or the A17 Pro iPad mini. The most advanced on-device features require an M4 or newer iPad Air or iPad Pro with at least 12 GB of memory, according to AppleInsider and TidBITS.

watchOS 27 and macOS 27 compatibility

Apple Watch

watchOS 27 has a much shorter list. According to AppleInsider, it supports the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, SE 3, Ultra 2 and Ultra 3 (Apple added Series 9 after the initial listing). The Series 6, 7 and 8, the original Ultra and the SE 2 are no longer supported. watchOS 27 needs an iPhone 11 or SE (2nd generation) or later running iOS 27.

Mac

macOS 27 Golden Gate runs only on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 and later), according to TidBITS and OWC. macOS 26 Tahoe was the last version for Intel Macs. OWC reports Apple will keep releasing security updates for those Intel Macs for about three years. Buying a used iPhone? Check the exact model first

Software support is a big part of what a used iPhone is worth. An iPhone 15 Pro and an iPhone 15 look almost identical in photos, but only one gets Siri AI. An iPhone 11 runs iOS 27 today but is likely the first in line for the next cut. Sellers mislabel models all the time, sometimes by accident.

  1. Get the IMEI or serial number from the seller before you meet. Dial *#06# or look in Settings › General › About.
  2. Confirm the model, color and storage with a model, color, storage and Find My check. Your first All-in-one Basic Info check is free.
  3. Decode the model number. In Settings › General › About, tap Model Number to see the part number (for example MTUW3LL/A). Our iPhone model number guide explains the prefix and region code, and the Apple part number check confirms it.
  4. Check the software version in Settings › General › About › iOS Version. A phone stuck on an old version may have a reason for it.
  5. Run a GSMA blacklist check so you’re not buying a phone reported lost or stolen.

The bottom line

iOS 27 supports the same iPhones as iOS 26: iPhone 11 and later, plus the iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). iPads lose five older models, Apple Watch loses five, and Intel Macs are left on macOS 26. Siri AI needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. If you’re buying used, aim for a model with several years of support left, and verify the exact model from the IMEI before money changes hands.
