Honor put three phones on stage in Beijing on 28 September 2026, and none of them was called the Honor Magic 9 Pro. You get the Magic 9, the Magic 9 Pro Max, and a Magic 9 Super Edition with a cooling fan inside it. That line-up has left a lot of buyers searching for a model that doesn’t exist.

Here’s what each phone is, how they compare, what’s known about a global launch, and what to check if you’re tempted to import one before it reaches your country.

Three phones, no “Pro”

Instead of the usual base model and Pro, Honor split the series three ways, according to Tech-ish’s pre-launch spec report and GSMArena’s listings:

  • Magic 9: the standard flagship, on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 used in last year’s Magic 8 Pro.
  • Magic 9 Pro Max: the top model, and one of the first phones with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
  • Magic 9 Super Edition: built for sustained performance, with an active cooling fan and the biggest battery of the three.

Searching for a “Honor Magic 9 Pro”? The Pro Max is the nearest thing. There’s no separate Pro model in China.

The Pro Max adds IP68 and IP69K water and dust ratings and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Honor says its batteries use an anode with high silicon content, which it puts at around 40%. That’s how it fits 8,000 to 11,000mAh into a body the size of a normal phone.

Magic 9 Pro Max: the one most likely to leave China

Honor usually takes its top model global, so this is the phone most buyers outside China will actually be able to get. What it brings:

  • The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, Qualcomm’s top 2nm chip, announced in late September 2026.
  • An 8,800mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.
  • IP68/IP69K protection, meaning it’s rated for submersion and for high-pressure water jets.
  • A camera system with tuning from cinema-camera maker Arri, according to Notebookcheck’s pre-launch reporting.

How it stacks up against the Xiaomi 18 Pro, vivo X500 and Oppo Find X10 is in our guide to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Dimensity 9600 phones.

Super Edition: yes, there’s a fan in it

This is the odd one. The Super Edition has an active cooling fan inside the body, which Honor uses to keep the chip at full speed for longer during games and long video recordings. Most phones slow themselves down once they get hot. A fan pushes that point further out. It also carries the biggest battery in the series, 11,000mAh, with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The cost is weight and moving parts. At 227g it’s heavier than most flagships, and a fan means a vent and something that can collect dust. In the sources we’ve seen, Honor hasn’t published a water-resistance rating for the Super Edition, so look at the final spec sheet if that matters to you.

The standard Magic 9

The base model sticks with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, still a very fast chip, and pairs it with an 8,000mAh battery, 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. Coming from a phone that’s two or three years old, it will feel like a big step up. If you already own a Magic 8 Pro, you mostly gain battery size and the newer MagicOS 11.

Global launch and price: what’s known

As of 25 October 2026 the series is on sale in China only, with no international dates or prices from Honor. Past Magic phones have reached Europe, the Middle East and other markets four to eight weeks after China, which would mean roughly November to December 2026. That’s an expectation based on history, not an announcement.

Global versions usually differ in a few ways:

  • Battery size. Some brands fit smaller batteries in Europe to meet shipping rules for large cells. Oppo did it with the Find X10. Wait for the official global spec sheet.
  • Which models. Not every Chinese model goes global. The Pro Max is the likeliest. The Super Edition may stay in China.
  • Google services. Global units ship with Google Play. Chinese ones don’t.
  • Price. Don’t go by a converted Chinese price. After taxes and a local warranty, global flagships usually cost more.

Importing one now: the catches

An import gets you the phone months early. Before you order, weigh these up:

  1. No Google Play. Chinese MagicOS units come without Google services, and Google apps added afterwards may not be properly certified. Our Play Protect certification check shows how to confirm a phone’s status.
  2. Network bands. Compare the 4G and 5G bands with your carrier’s. US buyers are most likely to miss important bands, and Honor doesn’t sell its flagships in the US.
  3. Warranty. Honor service in your country is unlikely to cover a Chinese unit.
  4. Software. Some resellers flash modified ROMs, which can stop getting official updates.

If any one of those is a deal-breaker for you, waiting a couple of months for the global version costs you nothing but time.

Checks before you pay for a Magic 9

New from an importer or used later on, do these first:

  • Run a manufacturer and model check on the IMEI to confirm the exact model and region.
  • Run a GSMA blacklist check so you know it isn’t reported lost or stolen.
  • Make sure the IMEI on the box matches the one in Settings and the one you get by dialling *#06#.
  • Check the seller has removed their Honor ID and Google account.
  • Ask which ROM is installed, and whether Google Play came preinstalled or was added later.
  • Put your own SIM in, make a call, and load a web page on mobile data before you hand over the money.
