Early January 2027. That’s the Galaxy S27 release date in a leak SamMobile reported on 19 October, and it would be weeks earlier than the S26, which Samsung announced on 25 February this year. If you’re about to buy an S26, new, refurbished or used, a new generation (with a brand-new S27 Pro in it) could be in shops sooner than you thought.

Very little of this is confirmed. Here is what’s been reported, how much weight each piece deserves, and how it should affect what you buy now.

The January date and where it comes from

SamMobile’s report passes on a claim from tipster Lanzuk, citing a Naver blog post, that the S27 series will be announced in early January 2027. SamMobile said Samsung wants to line up more closely with rivals’ product schedules. Samsung hasn’t confirmed any date, and the timing could still move.

January would be a return to Samsung’s older rhythm:

SeriesUnpacked date
Galaxy S2114 January 2021
Galaxy S2417 January 2024
Galaxy S2522 January 2025
Galaxy S2625 February 2026
Galaxy S27 (rumoured)Early January 2027

Unpacked invitations usually go out two to three weeks before the event, so a January launch would mean invitations in December. Sales normally begin a couple of weeks after the announcement, though that gap isn’t confirmed for the S27 either.

Four phones this time, including an S27 Pro

Leaks keep pointing to four models instead of three. There’s the base Galaxy S27, the S27+ with a bigger screen and battery, a new S27 Pro slotted between the Plus and the Ultra, and the S27 Ultra at the top. Some outlets have compared leaked Ultra renders to an iPhone Pro design. A separate tip says the Ultra gets a sharper Privacy Display. All of it is leak material until Samsung announces the phones.

Exynos 2700 or Snapdragon, depending on where you live

A leak SamMobile reported in July 2026 described this split:

ModelReported chipRegions
Galaxy S27 / S27+Exynos 2700“Most countries” (no detailed list)
Galaxy S27 ProExynos 2700Asia (incl. South Korea and India), Australia, Europe (incl. UK), Africa, Latin America
Galaxy S27 ProSnapdragonUS, Canada, Mexico
Galaxy S27 UltraSnapdragonAll markets

The Snapdragon part is expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, already used in the Motorola Signature 27 and OnePlus 16. The Exynos 2700 is reported to be Samsung’s second-generation 2nm chip, built on Samsung Foundry’s SF2P process, possibly in a side-by-side package that puts the processor and memory next to each other under a heat-dissipation block. The S26 line used the Exynos 2600.

In Nigeria, the UK, the Middle East and Brazil, then, the S27, S27+ and S27 Pro would most likely be Exynos, and only the Ultra would be Snapdragon everywhere. The S26 had a similar split; our Galaxy S26 Snapdragon vs Exynos 2600 explainer shows how to tell which chip a phone has.

Memory is still open. According to SamMobile’s October report, Samsung is weighing LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage for the S27 Pro and Ultra. Both are faster than current memory, but high chip prices make them expensive, so neither is decided.

A bigger Ultra battery, at last

The Ultra has had a 5,000mAh battery for several generations. China’s 3C certification listings, reported by Canaltech and ChannelNews in September 2026, suggest that’s changing. They show a rated 5,534mAh for the S27 Ultra and 5,087mAh for the S27 Pro, both with 60W wired charging. That’s the same speed Samsung introduced on the S26 Ultra.

Samsung normally advertises a “typical” figure a little above the rated one, so expect something like 5,600–5,700mAh on the Ultra and 5,100–5,200mAh on the Pro. Those are estimates; only the rated numbers come from the certification.

For an S26 owner, the changes look real but not dramatic: a newer chip, a slightly bigger Ultra battery and one more size to choose from. Coming from an S23, S24 or older, you’d notice a much bigger jump.

How much to trust each kind of leak

  • Certification listings, like China’s 3C database, are the strongest evidence, because regulators publish them. They show rated capacities and charging speeds, not marketing names.
  • Tipster and supply-chain reports, such as Lanzuk’s January date, tend to get the direction right and can miss on exact dates.
  • Renders and design leaks show the general shape but can get colours, materials and small details wrong.
  • Price leaks are the weakest before launch, more so this year, with memory costs pushing prices around across the industry.

Be wary of “pre-order” listings from unofficial sellers before Unpacked. Until Samsung announces the phones, nobody can guarantee a model, a price or a shipping date.

Buy an S26 now, or wait?

Wait if you want the newest chip, the S27 Pro size or the bigger Ultra battery, your current phone still works until January or February, and you plan to keep the next one for years (a newer model has a longer update window left).

Buy an S26 now, new or refurbished, if your phone is broken or failing. It’s still a current flagship with years of updates ahead. It’s also the better move if price matters most or you’re worried about launch prices: memory costs have risen sharply this year, and new flagships across the industry are launching higher.

Every Galaxy S launch has the same knock-on effect. The previous generation gets cheaper through retailer discounts and carrier deals, and more owners trade in or sell. An earlier launch could pull that forward by several weeks compared with this year. If you’re selling an S25 or S26, you’ll usually get more before the S27 announcement than after it.

Checking a used S25 or S26 before you pay

Used listings will climb as the launch gets closer. Samsung uses different model codes for each region and chip, so check:

  1. Dial *#06# and make sure the IMEI matches the box and the listing.
  2. Run a Samsung Info report for the exact model code, region, carrier and warranty status.
  3. Run a GSMA blacklist check so you don’t buy a phone reported lost or stolen.
  4. Test the screen, cameras, charging and speakers.
  5. Have the seller remove their Google and Samsung accounts before you pay.
