47°C. That’s what Gadget.ro measured on the back of a Realme GT 8 Pro after five or six minutes of heavy load. Heat and throttling top the list of Realme GT 8 Pro problems owners search for, followed by battery drain after updates, a few camera weak spots and a lot of confusion about Realme UI being replaced by ColorOS 17.
This is a real performance flagship: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 7,000mAh battery and 120W charging. It launched on 21 October 2025 with Realme UI 7.0 on Android 16 and a promise of four major Android upgrades, according to Gadget.ro’s review. A year later it’s one of the first Realme phones in line for ColorOS 17.
Hot back and dropping frame rates in games
The chip is extremely fast. Smartprix recorded about 3.75 million points in AnTuTu, roughly 40% more than the GT 7 Pro. Realme fits a 7,000mm² vapor chamber, and in a short benchmark Smartprix saw modest temperatures.
Sustained load is another story. On top of that 47°C reading, Gadget.ro saw GPU performance fall sharply after three or four 3DMark stress loops. That’s throttling. It’s the phone protecting itself, not a defect, but you can make it kick in later:
- Use GT mode only for games. It pushes performance hard, so leave it off the rest of the time.
- Don’t charge while gaming. 120W charging plus a heavy GPU load is the quickest route to a heat warning.
- Drop the refresh rate in Settings › Display & brightness › Screen refresh rate to 60Hz or Auto instead of 144Hz.
- Cap frame rates in each game’s settings or in Game Assistant. 60–90 fps runs far cooler than 120 fps or more.
- Take the case off for long sessions and keep out of direct sun.
- Hot while idle? Restart. A stuck process is usually the reason.
- Keep it updated via Settings › Software update. Thermal tuning often gets refined.
Hot on a desk with nothing running, shutting down from heat, or a back that looks swollen: those need a service centre.
Battery drain on a 7,000mAh phone
Gadget.ro got close to two days of normal use out of it. So if yours is flat by evening, something in software is wrong.
Start with Auto launch (Settings › Apps › Auto launch) and switch it off for any app that has no reason to start itself. Then restrict background activity for heavy apps, either from Settings › Battery or from Settings › Apps › the app › Battery usage. Social and shopping apps are the usual offenders, so cut their background refresh and notifications too.
The refresh rate matters more than usual here. The panel is non-LTPO, so it can’t drop below 60Hz, and running at 144Hz costs battery even on a static screen. Auto or 60Hz is the better everyday setting.
Settings › Battery also shows usage by app, battery health and charging options. Turn on smart or optimised charging to reduce wear. And after a big update, give it 48 hours to finish optimising before you decide anything.
Realme UI 8 isn’t coming. ColorOS 17 is.
If you’ve been searching for “Realme UI 8”, this is why you can’t find it. According to Beebom, Realme is moving from Realme UI to ColorOS 17, Oppo’s Android 17-based software, and Gadget.ro reports Realme is officially becoming an Oppo sub-brand. Realme UI was always built on ColorOS, so the look and the settings will feel familiar.
A ColorOS 17 Open Beta ran for selected users in mid-October 2026; registration closed on 12 October. For the stable release, Beebom lists the GT 8 Pro and GT 8 Pro Dream Edition in the 29 October 2026 rollout group. Rollouts are staggered by region, so yours may arrive days or weeks later. Look for it in Settings › Software update.
When it does arrive:
- Back up photos, chats and app data before you tap install.
- Use Wi-Fi, have more than 50% charge and keep several gigabytes free.
- After installing, restart once and leave the phone on charge and Wi-Fi overnight while apps re-optimise.
- Re-check battery, Auto launch and notification settings. Major updates sometimes reset them.
- If an app crashes, update it and clear its cache before you even think about a reset.

Soft selfies, so-so stabilisation
On paper the cameras are strong: a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 200MP 3x periscope telephoto, a 50MP ultrawide and a 32MP selfie camera, with swappable rear camera modules sold separately. Reviews praise the telephoto and the video. They also point out real weak spots.
Gadget.ro notes the ultrawide and front cameras have no autofocus, so very close subjects come out soft. Keep people at a normal distance and switch to the main camera for close-ups. On video, GSMArena readers and reviewers said stabilisation could be better, and Gadget.ro found Ultra stabilisation adds little beyond a crop. Standard stabilisation and steady hands (or a gimbal) work better.
Blurry shots everywhere? Clean the lenses, especially if you’ve been swapping modules, and check a swapped module is seated properly. If the Camera app crashes, go to Settings › Apps › Camera › Storage usage › Clear cache, then update.
Was it overpriced, and is it worth it now?
At launch in Europe the GT 8 Pro cost about €1,100 (12GB/256GB) and €1,200 (16GB/512GB). A GSMArena reader poll in November 2025 decided it needed a price cut, with many respondents wanting more than €100 off and comparing it with rivals like the OnePlus 15. Prices have since dropped in many markets, and a year-old phone with four promised Android upgrades is better value now than it was then. Check local retailers and refurbished listings.
If you’re buying used, Chinese and global versions differ in software and bands, so run a manufacturer and model check first. Put the IMEI through the GSMA blacklist and confirm the carrier lock status. Make sure it’s Play Protect certified on official software (here’s how to check Play Protect certification). Test every rear camera, look at the swappable module mount for damage, and confirm the seller has signed out of their Google and Realme/HeyTap accounts.
Before you take it to a Realme service centre
Some symptoms point to hardware rather than software: heat while idle, sudden shutdowns with plenty of battery left, a battery that bulges or charges far slower than before on the original charger, a camera module that throws errors after being swapped, or a display with lines or dead pixels.
- Back up your data.
- Dial *#06# and write down the IMEI, plus the software version from Settings › About device.
- If the fault comes and goes, film it.
- Check your purchase date. Units bought at launch in October 2025 are at or near the end of a one-year warranty, so look up your local consumer rights before paying.
- Go to an authorised Realme service centre for anything battery-related. The 7,000mAh cell and 120W charging system need genuine parts, not an unofficial shop.
Perguntas frequentes
Why does my Realme GT 8 Pro heat up?
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 makes a lot of heat under sustained gaming or recording; Gadget.ro measured about 47°C on the back. Use GT mode only for games and don’t charge while playing.
Does the Realme GT 8 Pro throttle?
Under sustained stress, yes. GPU performance dropped after a few repeated 3DMark stress loops in Gadget.ro’s tests. Lower frame rates and refresh rate to keep it steadier.
How do I fix Realme GT 8 Pro battery drain?
Turn off Auto launch for apps that don’t need it, restrict background activity, use Auto or 60Hz refresh and give big updates 48 hours to settle.
Will the Realme GT 8 Pro get Realme UI 8?
No. Realme is moving to ColorOS 17 instead, and Beebom lists the GT 8 Pro in the 29 October 2026 stable rollout group.
Why are Realme GT 8 Pro selfies soft?
The front and ultrawide cameras have no autofocus, so close subjects look soft. Keep subjects at a normal distance or use the main camera.
How much did the Realme GT 8 Pro cost?
In Europe it launched at about €1,100 for 12GB/256GB and €1,200 for 16GB/512GB. Prices have since fallen in many markets.
