Twenty minutes into a game, the hinge of your Galaxy Z Flip7 is warm enough to notice and the frame rate starts to dip. Heat and battery life are the Galaxy Z Flip7 problems owners search for most, and they share a cause. This is the first Flip to run Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 in every market, the US included, where earlier Flips always had Snapdragon. Put that chip in a folding body with a 4,300mAh battery and 25W charging, and a heavy day gets tight.
None of that makes it a bad phone. It does mean the settings matter more than usual. Below are the fixes that help, plus the One UI 9 setup bug, the crease and the cover screen.
What the Exynos 2500 changes
Samsung picked the 3nm Exynos 2500 for the Flip7 worldwide, which GSMArena and others reported ahead of launch in 2025. Development wasn’t smooth. Notebookcheck covered reports of renewed trouble with the Exynos 2500 for the Flip7 and Flip FE, and reviewers since launch have pointed to heat and throttling under sustained load.
For messaging, browsing and video, performance is fine. Long gaming sessions, extended 4K recording and using the phone while it charges are where it struggles. A Sunday Guardian review round-up from India lists battery, slow 25W charging, heating and poor sustained gaming among its reasons to think twice. It cites Android Authority’s test, where a full charge from about 2% took roughly 91 minutes and ran warmer than the previous Flip.
Keeping it cool in games, video calls and the camera
The hinge and back heat up, brightness drops, frame rates fall, or a “Device is overheating” warning appears while it charges. A flip phone has very little room for a vapor chamber, and the Exynos 2500 throttles when it hits its thermal limit. Charging stacks more heat on top.
The one change that helps most: don’t charge while gaming or filming. After that:
- Take the case off for long sessions, especially a thick or leather one.
- Switch to Settings › Device care › Performance profile › Light (on some builds it’s under Settings › Battery). Peak speed drops a little, and the phone stays cooler and steadier.
- Cap game frame rates in Game Booster, and set Settings › Display › Motion smoothness to Standard when you need battery and heat headroom.
- Record at 4K 30 fps rather than 60 fps in Camera settings.
- Check Settings › Battery › View details for apps with unusual usage, then update or remove them.
- Install updates from Settings › Software update › Download and install.
Hot while idle on a cold desk, or shutting down from heat? That isn’t normal. Book a Samsung service check.
Getting through a day on 4,300mAh
For heavy users the Flip7 is a one-day phone. You can’t change the cell. You can stop wasting it.
- The cover screen. The 4.1-inch FlexWindow is a big draw. In Settings › Cover screen, shorten the timeout and turn off its Always On Display if you don’t use it.
- Sleeping apps. Settings › Battery › Background usage limits › Put unused apps to sleep. Move heavy apps you rarely open into “Deep sleeping apps”.
- Radios you don’t use. Turn off Nearby device scanning (Settings › Connected devices, under Quick Share and related options) and UWB if you have no use for it.
- Weak 5G. In poor coverage LTE uses less power. Change it in Settings › Connections › Mobile networks › Network mode.
- Battery protection. Settings › Battery › Battery protection › Maximum caps charging at 80% (One UI lets you raise the cap to 85% or higher). Better for long-term health.
- Fresh update? Give One UI 9 a few days. It re-optimises apps and indexes files afterwards, which drains more for a while.
One UI 9: stuck on setup with “Access Denied”
Samsung began rolling out stable One UI 9, based on Android 17, to the Galaxy S25, Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 on 29 September 2026, starting in South Korea, according to gHacks. Other regions followed in waves, and our One UI 9 rollout tracker has dates by model and country. Check yours in Settings › Software update › Download and install.
According to Sammy Fans (12 October 2026), some owners who reset their phone after updating found setup stuck on an error mentioning XML and “Access Denied”. The workaround they reported:
- Go through setup without Wi-Fi or mobile data, and connect only once you reach the home screen.
- If that doesn’t work, boot into Safe Mode (hold the power button, long-press Power off, tap Safe mode), turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data, then restart normally.
- Install newer firmware as soon as Samsung releases it. That’s the permanent fix.
A reset Samsung phone asks for the previous Google account (Factory Reset Protection). If you’re resetting to sell it, remove your accounts first.
Smaller glitches after the update usually clear with less effort. If an app keeps crashing, go to Settings › Apps, pick it, choose Storage › Clear cache, then update it in the Play Store and Galaxy Store. Laggy animations often go after a restart and a run of Settings › Device care. Only if problems persist should you back up with Smart Switch and factory reset.
Is the crease getting worse, or is that normal?
The Flip7’s crease is shallower than on earlier Flips but still shows at an angle and in reflections. That’s normal.
These are not: a crease that deepens quickly, bubbles or lifting in the factory protector, a line of dead pixels, or flicker along the fold. Samsung recommends leaving the pre-installed inner screen protector on and having a Samsung service centre replace it if it lifts.
Cover screen won’t show your apps (or won’t wake)
Most of the time this is software. Many apps don’t run on the FlexWindow by default. Turn them on in Settings › Advanced features › Labs › Apps allowed on cover screen, or use the MultiStar module in Samsung’s Good Lock.
If the cover screen won’t light up, open Settings › Cover screen and check that double-tap or button wake is enabled. If only the cover screen ignores touch, take off any case or third-party film over it and restart. A cover screen that stays black after a restart and an update is probably hardware, so contact Samsung.
Taking it in for repair
Samsung’s standard warranty is usually one year from purchase in the US and longer in some countries. Screen faults along the fold, a stiff or grinding hinge, a swollen battery and a dead cover screen are all hardware. Before you book, run a Samsung Info report to see the warranty and model details, so you know whether the repair should be free.
Checking a used Z Flip7 before you pay
- Fold it slowly a dozen times. Listen for grinding and watch the crease for lines or bubbles.
- Test touch on the cover screen right up to the edges.
- Run a Samsung Info S2 check for model, region and warranty, and make sure the model code matches the listing. The used Galaxy buying guide explains how to read model codes.
- Put the IMEI through a Verificação de blacklist GSMA and confirm the carrier lock status.
- Watch the seller remove their Samsung and Google accounts.
Perguntas frequentes
Does the Galaxy Z Flip7 use Exynos in the US?
Yes. It uses the Exynos 2500 in every market, the US included, unlike earlier Flips that shipped with Snapdragon in America.
Why does my Z Flip7 overheat?
The Exynos 2500 runs hot under sustained load such as gaming, long 4K recording and charging, and a flip phone has little room for cooling. Use the Light performance profile and don’t charge while gaming.
How can I improve Z Flip7 battery life?
Shorten the cover screen timeout, turn off its Always On Display, put unused apps to sleep, use LTE where 5G is weak and turn on Battery protection.
My Z Flip7 is stuck at setup after One UI 9. What do I do?
Some owners hit an XML “Access Denied” error. Finish setup offline, or boot into Safe Mode, turn off Wi-Fi and data, and restart.
Is the Z Flip7 crease a defect?
A light crease is normal. One that worsens quickly, bubbles in the protector or dead pixels along the fold should be checked under warranty.
