$699 gets you a new Galaxy S26 FE. Since 21 October, $489 gets you a factory-refurbished Galaxy S25 flagship, sold by Samsung itself on Amazon with a one-year warranty. The Fan Edition is supposed to be the sensible Galaxy, flagship looks for less money, and this autumn its toughest competition comes from Samsung’s own refurbishment line.

The S26 FE has been on sale since 4 September 2026. Here’s what you get for the money, what changed from the S25 FE, and how it stacks up against a refurbished S25.

Price and release date

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S26 FE went on sale in key markets on 4 September 2026. Every version has 8GB of RAM.

StorageUSUKEU

256GB$799£799€899
512GBNot offered£949€1,099

In the US the base model costs $50 more than the S25 FE did at launch ($649). It comes in Blueberry, Graphite and Pistachio, and AndroidHeadlines notes there’s no charger in the box.

The spec sheet

It ships with One UI 9.0, so it won’t need the big One UI 9 update older Galaxies are getting now. It also picks up camera features from Samsung’s 2026 foldables: My FanCam, which tracks a subject automatically, and Super Steady with Horizontal Lock. AndroidHeadlines reports that Samsung’s September 2026 security patch for the phone included 90 fixes. Which other Galaxies have One UI 9 is in our One UI 9 rollout tracker.

What actually changed from the S25 FE

The processor, mainly. The S26 FE moves from the Exynos 2400 to Samsung’s newer Exynos 2500, a deca-core chip, according to AndroidHeadlines. SamMobile and AndroidHeadlines both list the Exynos 2500 next to US pricing and mention no Snapdragon version, so expect Exynos in the US model too. If that matters to you, check the model code on the box.

The battery doesn’t change. It’s 4,900mAh, like the S25 FE, with the same 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. Any battery gain will come from the newer chip being more efficient, not from capacity.

The S25 FE launched on One UI 8 (Android 16); the S26 FE launches on One UI 9 (Android 17). And the camera now sits on a raised plateau instead of individual lens rings. AndroidHeadlines calls that more of a change than an upgrade, and concludes there’s little reason for S25 FE owners to switch, especially as many One UI 9 features are expected to reach the S25 FE through updates.

The S25 FE was promised seven years of OS and security updates. If you plan to keep the S26 FE for a long time, check its commitment on Samsung’s product page before buying.

New S26 FE, or a Certified Re-Newed S25?

On 21 October 2026, Samsung Electronics America brought its Certified Re-Newed program to Amazon.com. Samsung says the 14 listings cover the Galaxy S24 FE, S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra, starting at $489, each with a one-year limited manufacturer warranty, and Samsung Care+ is available.

The new FE gives you a fresh battery, the latest software out of the box, the longest remaining update window and the full new-phone warranty. A Re-Newed S25 gives you a smaller flagship with a Snapdragon chip for less, still with a Samsung warranty. And if a Re-Newed S25 Ultra is priced close to a new FE, it brings the best camera and the S Pen.

Refurbished prices vary by model and storage, so compare the exact listing with the S26 FE on the day. Our explainer on refurbished vs used vs renewed covers how certified refurbished differs from ordinary marketplace “renewed” phones, and why phone prices are rising in 2026 explains why so many buyers are looking at refurbished flagships this year.

Battery condition is the big unknown on any refurbished phone. When it arrives, open Samsung Members › Support › Phone diagnostics and run Battery status, then check the remaining warranty with a Samsung Info report. If the battery shows as weak, or the warranty doesn’t match the listing, use Amazon’s return window straight away. Part of what the extra money for a new FE buys is not having to do this.

128GB or 256GB?

Storage can’t be expanded, so this choice sticks. 128GB is fine if your photos live in Google Photos or Samsung Cloud and you don’t install many big games. If you keep phones four years or more, get 256GB: One UI, system updates and app caches grow over time, and 4K video eats space. In the US that step costs $100. UK and EU buyers can also get 512GB, but at £949 or €1,099 it’s close to the price of higher-end Galaxy models, so look at those first.

Who should buy one

If you want a new large-screen Galaxy with IP68, wireless charging, a 3x telephoto and One UI 9 from day one, and you’ll keep it for years, the S26 FE makes sense. If you already have an S25 FE, it doesn’t: the battery and cameras are essentially carried over. A refurbished S25 suits you better if you want flagship performance for less and can live with a shorter remaining software window. And if you’re in no hurry, wait. FE models are often discounted over the holidays and with carrier trade-ins.

Checking a used S26 FE or S25

For a nearly-new S26 FE from a marketplace, or a refurbished S25 from anyone other than Samsung, check before paying:

  • Dial *#06# and run a Samsung Info report for the model code, region, manufacture date and warranty.
  • Run a GSMA blacklist check to make sure the IMEI isn’t reported lost or stolen.
  • Look at Settings › About phone › Software information for the One UI version, and test the screen, cameras, charging and fingerprint sensor.
  • See our used Galaxy model breakdown for model codes and common faults.

Setting it up on day one

The S26 FE has the same core security as Samsung’s flagships: Knox, Secure Folder, Auto Blocker and Android 17’s theft protections, which switch on Theft Detection Lock and Remote Lock by default on new devices. A few steps on the first day make that count:

  1. Sign in with your Google and Samsung accounts, so Find My Mobile and Google’s Find Hub can locate, lock or erase it if it’s lost.
  2. Check theft protection is on in Settings › Security and privacy › Lost device protection (the wording varies a little by region).
  3. Move your data across with Smart Switch, then erase the old phone before you sell or trade it in.
  4. Write down the IMEI from *#06# and keep the receipt, so you can report and block the phone if it’s ever stolen.

Frequently asked questions

When was the Galaxy S26 FE released?

It went on sale in key markets on 4 September 2026, according to SamMobile.

How much does the Galaxy S26 FE cost?

In the US it’s $699 for 128GB and $799 for 256GB. UK prices are £699, £799 and £949; EU prices are €799, €899 and €1,099.

What chip does the Galaxy S26 FE use?

The Samsung Exynos 2500, replacing the Exynos 2400 in the Galaxy S25 FE.
